As long as Warner coninues to release 1 and 2-disc version AT THE SAME TIME (instead of releasing a 2-disc version a few months after everyone has bought the 1 disc version --- FOX!!) why should we care?
Some people aren't into extras and want a movie-only version so that they can save a few bucks. What's wrong with that? Seriously, sometimes people bitch about the STUPIDEST things!

It's really not a stupid thing to complain about. When stores see that there is a one disc version and a two disc version they make the 2 disc like 5 or 6 dollars more even though the msrp is just a dollar or two more. Plus Columbia House will most likely not sell the 2 disc sets as enrollments since they will consider them special. If they would just release the two disc sets, then everyone can save a lot of money.
Artman

Since the movie is so short I'd expect them to just include the extras on a single disc.

Examples, please?

11-04-05, 11:18 AM
Examples, please?
Batman Begins, Lemony Snicket, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, War of the Worlds (2005). All of these had/have seperate one and two disc releases, and the stores always heavily discount the one-disc release and barely discount the two-disc releases at all.
Mr. Cinema
11-04-05, 11:35 AM
WB released Terminator 3 as a 2-disc only and it sold for $15 on release week. Matrix 2 and 3 were also 2-disc only and sold for $15 on their release weeks.
FOX released Star Wars as a 2-disc only and it sold for $15 on release week.
For some reason, retailers seem to think that the bonus disc is worth $8 more than the movie disc, even though the retail price is only a difference of 1 or 2 dollars.
The reason people are complaining is because they used to be able to get 2-disc releases for $15 in stores, now all of a sudden it's $23.

Shagrath

None of those 2-disc sets have an MSRP of only "a dollar or two more" than the 1-disc version.
According to the retail price that DDD gives ("Why pay $XX.XX"):
Batman Begins
1-disc $28.95
2-disc $29.95
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
1-disc $28.95
2-disc $30.95
War of the Worlds (2005)
1-disc $29.95
2-disc $39.95 (this is a rare example, it seems)
Constantine
1-disc $28.95
2-disc $30.95
So, yes, there are numerous instances of this case, and the fact that they're not as heavily discounted is what ticks most of us off. I wouldn't mind paying the $2-3 extra to get the 2-disc version if they would just discount them the same amount.
Josh H
11-04-05, 12:12 PM
Exactly. The Big Box stores are using the 1 disc versions as loss leaders, and not discounting the 2 disc ones as much release week.
It royally sucks.

I also stand corrected. I didn't notice that consumers were being screwed by the retailers during release week - although that's hardly the studio's fault.
bboisvert
11-04-05, 03:22 PM
... and, in fairness, if you pick and choose your retailers, you can still do quite well. At various points during the preorder stage, Amazon has had the 2-disc Batman and Charlie sets for $15.xx (although both are currently more than that on the site).

Very nice looking DVD and thankfully its a single disc with good extras so I don't have to pay $24.99 for it instead of $15.99.
I also agree with the frustration of the 1 and 2 discs sets from Warner. I don't buy that they have to release them that way when other studios do the 2 disc thing as their regular release. What sucks is when you pay $25 for a 2 disc set like The Polar Express and realize the second discs is mostly fluff and hardly worth the extra $8-$9 retail you paid for it. Very sucky trend.

Lol at the desktop maggot on the corpse bride DVD site. That's great.
Price doesn't really matter to me much. I've heard the movie has a Danny Elfman exclusive track and I've enjoyed listening to his compositions alone in other Tim Burton films such as edward scissorhands. And IMO animated movies like this really shine on home theater systems. I don't know what it is, perhaps all the attention to detail with the cinematography since everything has been crafted by hand as well as having studio voice recordings. Animated movies just seem to bring out the best in home theater systems so I really must own this movie. Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham's voice work are a nice bonus as well :)

Wow, the Walmart packaging is awesome! I wasn't expecting this and I'm glad I got it there. As noted earlier, it comes packed with a book. However, this all comes in a slipcover with a multi-image thing on it (like Day After Tomorrow, the Final Countdown, etc). When you hold it one way, it's Victor holding hands with Victoria. When you shift it, she turns into the Corpse Bride and a bunch of characters from the underworld appear. Really creative in my opinion. Hopefully the pics explain it better:
Oh, and make sure you check if it's widescreen. Theres a sticker on the front that indicates it. I had to dig through at least 20 before I found a widescreen version and I'd assume they stocked 4 times as many full screen ones.

Sheesh, did they really have to send them back (no doubt to bolster the sales of the regualr editions, now $19.94), or am I to believe they all really sold out that quickly??
Right now, I'm ifffy on the "Wallace & Gromit" 2-pack because no Wal-Mart sells it for under 19.64 here in St. Louis. I suppose that too will vanish next week?
if you want it that bad, order it online.

I couldn't believe it. Went to my Walmart today for the Wallace and Gromit 2 Pack, and saw about 6 or so copies with the lenticular cover still left!

Were all of them widescreen? there is some sort of shortage in availability of this screen format release

Wel, it looks doubtful.. since the walmart.com site did not mention anything about a lenticular cover. Only the book

If it comes with the book then i would think it should come with the lenticular cover also.

That's great news! What's the book like? How many pages? Mostly illustrations?

That's great news! What's the book like? How many pages? Mostly illustrations?Softcover, 96 pages, about the size of a DVD case. It's FULL of pics, some storyboards and all the song lyrics. Since it's the "Illustrated Story" it also tells the movie in story form.

I'm in for one! I can't remember the last time I bought a WB release off of the lot! The exclusives were definately worth giving up the employee discount.

Contrary to rumors that the Mcfarlane toys are not packed with toy, Well here it is! unfortunately its not R1 but R3 Philippine Exclusive "On Pack" Corpse Bride
1st hand view of the said set of Corpse Bride "on pack" with the McFarlane Toys!
The bad news is as I heard from my source there, the said release was limited to 5 per store (and this is only at Astrovision, Philippines DVD/Video store). that means, quantities are extremely limited there.

Mine arrived yesterday but the 3D box was all crushed. Back it goes. I shouldn't be surprised. The "Polar Express" gift set I ordered from them also arrived crushed - but the disc, train and snow globe were OK, so I kept them. I guess it wasn't meant to be.

I bought the standard edition and I'm satisfied with my purchase. I loved the special features on the disc. They make an already impressive movie that much more impressive to see all that went into it's creation. I like the behind the scenes look at the official site as well. www.corpsebridedvd.com I wish I won the poetry contest though :( oh well I will probably pick up the mcfarlane figures when I get a chance.

Golden Apple COmics on Melrose in Hollywood has the two-pack (without DVD) for $30. I was there tonight and they had 6 left. If I didn't already have the individual figures, I might have picked it up. The repaints aren't worth rebuying them (to me), but the cardboard display case that they came in is cool.

Frank & Sons has it for $20. After seeing it and noticing they didn't have the same accessories as the individual figs, I passed on it. Now must find the individual figs.....

Damn, Xage. I'm hella jealous of your Phillipines Only package. LoL.
And that Lenticular Cover is cool. I didn't realize that the image changed like that. I just figured it was shiny. LoL.
I'm still loving this movie. I didn't win the puppet from the corpsebridedvd.com site, but i'm not holding it against them. LoL. My poem just sucked.
How many of you think that Corpse Bride will win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film? I do.
