Blockbuster just put up a Fox promotion featuring select TV boxsets at $24.99. Includes Simpsons Seasons 1-5, Family Guy (just the first volume I beleive), and In Living Color. Will check tonight for a comprehensive list.

Oooh, I was expecting you to list the same ol' Fox series we always see on clearance. I definitely want Simpsons 5 for that price, and am eager to see what else they have! I gotta check this out. I still have a gift card burning in my pocket from the $8 trade-ins last year...

Remember that $8 is in a gift card to only be used at Blockbuster where prices suck big time. I still have $65 from the last trade and don't know how I will ever use it. A new movie like Star Wars comes out and sells for $15 at say Best Buy while Blockbuster will wants $22, there goes the money you made on your trade in. I will never trade there again even if they bring it back some day.

Yeah that's how I feel. I've still got $47.something left on my card doing nothing. The guy told me when I traded my stuff in that I could use the card online, but, big surprise, I can't.
The only movie I've been able to bring myself to get was Incredibles for $19 when I was on vacation and it came out.

I wish! But I doubt it. That would be a nice Christmas gift indeed. I know it is only in-store credit, but you can get the occassional bargain there. For instance, Simpsons 2-5 are rarely found for $25. I'll jump all over those if my BBV has this deal...

Wow. Just out of curiousity, what are you waiting for to spur you to spend some of the credit? I have a store a couple of blocks from me on the upper west side and I had no problem using my $200 in credit fairly quickly. I bought a bunch of pre-viewed's at around $7-$10 a pop, and then some new DVD's. Didn't want the credit hanging over me for too long.

I had a few hundred dollars in credit too, and I couldn't use my gift card online either. I had them transfer the credit onto my account, and then transfer it back onto a card that I could use on the internet.

I use it on the 3 for $25 pre-viewed sales but there's not a lot I want there.
I started out with like $1400 in credit or something like that.

I'm still around at about the level. Since getting the credits I have bought like 3 discs at BBV. My intent was to double-down on some good PVD deals, but this 3/$25 is crap, I was really looking for B1G1F but I don't think that sale has been back for more than a year. In the meantime, the just expired HWV B1G1F coupon kept my average costs under $6 per movie, another disincentive to shopping at BBV.

I checked my local Blockbuster last night and of the Simpsons seasons they only had Seasons 4 and 5. They were both priced for $39.99. I did not check Family Guy because I own it and I do not care about In Living Color.

Sorry guys, I've been burning some vacation time so I haven't gotten the complete list (I think that I did get them all the first time, but I'm not positive) . . . but to answer a few questions:
The sale was in our MAP (our weekly merchandising standards if you will) last week. So it should be at all (corporate anyway) stores.
Stores are supposed to have a sign that sits atop the boxset case announcing the sale, but to my knowledge nobody has received the sign yet. There was no other form of price change notification, so I can just about guarantee that no stores changed the price tags (and most stores probably don't even know about the sale since the Monday night closer is usually the only one who ever bothers to look at the MAP) -- which really, you shouldn't change the price tags for a sale (yet some people do).
runner001
11-07-05, 02:51 PM
so basically we should just grab a few sets and have them scan it to verify if
1) the store has them on sale
2) which specific sets are on sale
correct?
also, these are for NEW boxsets? are they even located where we can pick them up or are they behind the counter/glass?

I just want to know if:
-Simpson's s6
-In Living Color s4

Deal is CONFIRMED in Plano, Texas! The "Selected Fox Sets for $24.99" sign was sitting on top of the glass case. I picked up Simpsons Season 5 for $27.05 with tax. Finally used up some of that credit I had from the $8 trade-in event. FYI: Simpsons Season 6 is NOT part of the deal, but seasons 1-5 are.

Sale is good in Fresno, CA. The dvd boxsets had the new price tag on them. According to the BB workers, the sale just started today(?) Bought the Simpsons s3-5. Thanks op for the deal! On a slightly different topic, if anybody wants to complete the whole(currently available) Simpsons series, Wherehouse has S6 on sale for $29.99. Not too shabby.

I checked the closest Blockbuster again and no sign and they still only had seasons 4 - 5 and I needed 3 - 4. I ended up trying one of the other three stores in town. Luckily they had the sign and seasons 3, 4, and 5.
So I can verify at least one of the four stores in Champaign-Urbana, IL has this deal but then again at least one of the four did not have it.
Now for the funny part: I told the employee I wanted The Simpsons 3 and 4. She walks over, gets them, and rings them up. When the price came up $53.85 (with tax) she got all confused and asked me if they were on sale. I could see not knowing of the sale if I had brought them up but the fact that she went over and missed the sign on top of the case was too much.

This just shows the intelligence level of most (not all) Blockbuster employees. I worked at a BBV in the Bay Area a few years ago and couldn't believe how incompetent many of my co-workers were. Then again most were high school part-timers who gave two craps about their job.

Hey All,
I work a BB right now and here is the deal:
TV-On-DVD for $25:
Arrested Development S1 & 2
Family Guy Vol. 1 & 2
In Living Color S1-4
Simpsons S1-5
Those are all the titles that are on the Promotion list that we got, and it should be like this everywhere. Unfortunatly we dont have much of whats on there so its kind of pointless for my store... Which is a bummer cause I really want to pick up In Living Color S4.
Hope that helps

Question. Why get these from a local BBV and pay tax when most of them are cheaper at DDD right now (20% off w/coupon) with free shipping?
Arrested Development S1 & 2 DDD=$20.30(S1) $23.08(S2)
In Living Color S1-4 DDD=23.42(S1&S3), 23.31(S4)
Simpsons S1-5 DDD=21.50(S1) 23.91(S2-5)
The only "bargains" are the two Family Guys and S2 of In Living Color, AFAIK.

And really, what do you acare if people don't mind paying an extra buck or two to walk out of a store with a DVD instead of dealing with DDD and their friggin' backorder crap. Out of every 10 discs I order from them, I end up waiting at least a couple of weeks for 1 of them.

Good point. Especially since most people are unaware of a sale going on at DDD.
I only wish somebody would open a topic of its own to address it. Oh well, for now we'll just have to make do with people thread-crapping every other bargain topic with mentions of it and discouraging anybody from posting anything else.

This is the DVD Bargains forum, and I asked what I thought was a legitimate and on-topic question, to wit, why should folks flock somewhere buy items they might be able to get for less at some other place?
If folks have a legitimate reason to go the B&M route (burning some store credit, they want it now, etc), then that answers the question. But I believe that merely pointing out that most of the "bargains" in this thread are available less expensively (albeit not as immediately) via another route does not constitute a threadcrap.
And I can state pretty confidently that not everybody here has the same apparent beef with DDD that you have.
I'm sorry if I've touched a nerve, but you seem awfully defensive to me.

If you are going to quote me at least quote me using my reply to your original question, not some reply that I made to somebody else. Otherwise it sort of bends my response and makes it sound like it was meant for you - which it wasn't.
A I don't have a beef with DDD - I'm just sick of hearing about their sale in every other friggin' bargain posted. We know about the sale!! Christ! I'd get just as sick about hearing about it if every time somebody posted a sale topic, somebody else said "you could get that cheaper at Columbia House" (which, with a little effort, is usually true).
