Actually, dvdpricesearch has a bunch of anime titles with new low price at BB. Besides Jubei-chan, Infinite Ryvius (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1431833&skuid=7213945&type=product) is worth taking a close look at: a 6-disc boxset for $23.99.

Great price for Infinite Ryvius. I just paid $35 for it at overstock a few days ago. The set come with the art box and 6 pencial boards as well.

If these BBY price reductions are like the previous couple of rounds this year, the prices will be good in store too. Then in a few days the online prices will go back up, but the in store prices will remain down low. They may not be tagged correctly (lousy lazy smurfs!) but they will scan correctly - that is if this time is like the other times.

justbarelymovin, I would just like to say that though I don't post much on these boards, I find your post of the anime bargains to be simply the best of anywhere that I have seen. Your post on DVDTalk is quite possibly my favorite.

I think that you shouldn't take too much credence to what others say about your orgination of your thread. I know how difficult and time consuming it is to run through constantly update a thread of this nature. Also, I believe that the way you had your thread organized before (without the tables) was absolutely perfect. It was easy and clear to read. Now it looks kind of jumbled and not very aestetically (sp I'm in a rush) appealing. I'd actually suggest going back to how the thread was organized previously. It sounds like it was also much easier for you to maintain, which IMHO is really all that should matter.

Question: Has anyone been able to get the Best Buy things or was that just a one day thing? I tried to get the Infinite Ryvius and another set online, but their prices had already gone back up (seems a little odd seeing as its only been a day)... and they're not in local stores. Just wondering on that.

Pretty typical of them. They usually lower prices online for a very short time and then raise them back up. You can usually find them in-store, but some titles just don't seem to be very widely available. I should've ordered Infinite Ryvius. Couldn't find it in-store.

There were none left except for a lone one box showing on the screen for a store in CA (don't remember which one) and there were no additional units on order. This was long enough ago for that one to be long gone.

The Outpost.com listing disappered long ago, so I would pretty much consider this deal dead and not include it in the next update.

A few of the Satoshi Kon titles on here got me thinking that I don't have all of his stuff. Two questions for anyone in the know:
1. Is it true that the Perfect Blue DVD is non-anamorphic?
2. Is Paranoia Agent worth it as a blind buy? (Please keep in mind that I think Millineum Actress and Tokyo Godfathers are MUCH better than Perfect Blue.)

Ouch! Of all of the special edition volumes, 1 and 2 come with the BEST STUFF(some *amazing* OSTs)! 2 copies of the show (DTS & Dolby) AND amazing music. Okay, maybe I'm just trying to make myself feel better for buying all the special editions... but really, it is a magnificent show and well worth it to get the cooler version :) They are "just" $23.99 each. Do it!

The box is of a much higher quality compared to the box that came with volume 1. There is also a nifty 50+ page booklet with many nice drawings. The movie itself is quite good, but only watch it after you have seen the series or it won't make much sense. Be aware though that the disc has a faulty audio track(the Japanese track was encoded incorrectly). You can exchange it for a corrected copy through ADV. Here is the link to the contact form-

wow I havent visit DDD in a while and a lot of the anime price seem to went up. I bought azumanga vol 1-4 from them a while back, I think it was for $17.97. Now it at $19.97. I was hopeing to buy the last volume under $15 from them since I can't find it at any best buy store in my area.

and probably others. I think that's pretty weak because I would've liked to have ordered a few of those. Also, I noticed the Ninja Scroll collections went up in price... Depends on how much you enjoyed Perfect Blue. Paraonia Agent's style and storyline is probably closer to Perfect Blue than it is to the other two movies. If you like Perfect Blue, then I would recommend Paranoia Agent, but if you're not too sure, might want to consider rentals as even with the 20% sale, the discs are still pretty pricey.

As for Paranoia Agent, it seemed more like Perfect Blue than the other two films; that's why I asked. I thought Perfect Blue was a great concept but poorly executed. ADV has never been that high on my list, but I didn't think that they would pull a stunt like this. I guess they're concern that this sale is conflicting with their online sales. Wonder if it would help if we allow DDD to deface the ADV DVDs that they ship to us?

I was waiting for this sale to pick up the Kino's thinpak set but now that's out the window. Looks like DDD is starting to pull all ADV discs as of now.

Edit. I guess I should also add that it's stupid to just pull all the ADV discs rather than just making them ineligible for the sale. After all, people can't buy what they can't put in their cart. Probably their system can't handle something like that, but I sure hope that ADV is reimbursing them for all their lost sales.

I'm sorry but this sounds a little funny to me. I mean doesn't DDD buy the product from the manufacture? The manufacture receives the same amount of money whether retailer has it on sale or not right? So the only one who actually looses is DDD. Plus I would think ADV would try to move all the singles they can, since those thinpak box sets they have now. But they want the entire product line taken down??

It sounds like to me DDD more trying to cut their losses from the sale. Anime wise ADV is the biggest distributor so its a good assume, anime wise their title would probally be the biggest amount ordered so it would be easy just to say lets not include ADV titles and save a few bucks.

It just when they had their last sale, ADV products on their site suddenly jumped up a few bucks days before to offset the saving on durning the sale. Plus if ADV really had a stick up their end about it why would they allow Rightstuf who just had a ADV sale(and with balances out to only a a dollar or two more than during the DDD) to do it then? It makes me wonder.

I think that ADV exempting themself from the DDD sale is hilarious. I mean, they themselves are the #1 source of devaluing their discs. They chuck out the box set so soon after their series is done, I rarely collect the individual discs any more - I just wait for a $40 boxset.

I don't have much respect for ADV since the Valentine's Day Massacre. This action to exempt their DVDs makes no sense to me because their wholesale price is fixed anyway. I wasn't even going to buy any thinpacks. I just wanted singles for Madlax, Gravion Zwei, Elfen Lied, Fumoffu, Get Backers, and Aquarian Age. I don't even own a single thinpack, yet I'm still restricted from buying ADV?

It makes no sense to me. I'd rarely pay more than $15ish for an ADV single anyway. At least I knocked off Kaleido Star 5, 6 and Elfen Lied 3 on the first day. I hope they don't cancel those. :(

Oh, I also noticed DDD took down GITS:SAC Official Log in the past day, just as I was going to order! Maybe DDD really is behind all of this.

By the way, I did not enjoy Avenger Complete Collection, for anyone interested in recommendations. It looked fairly nice, but the story was very, very, very weak. But thirteen decent-looking episdoes for 17 bucks isn't too bad. There are reviews on AnimeonDVD.com I think.

I figured this would happen or the price would increase based upon past events during DDD's 20% sale. I ordered a copy of the Log right after it was posted that the sale codes became active, received the discount and it has already shipped, so I'm keeping my finger's crossed. I heard that Avenger (Collection) is pretty weak. I liked DNA2 and ended up buying the single discs as they were released, $21 for the whole series is a nice deal.

As for the whole ADV thing, it's just another reason to add to the pile of reasons for why I pretty much stopped buying any of their products.

I rented Shamanic Princess after hearing glowing recommendations, and I turned it off partway through the second episode. The story up to that point was pretty weak, and it just seemed like a thinly-veiled attempt to cram together all my pet peeve anime clichés (high school girls, magic spells, transformations, anthromorphic animal sidekicks, etc.). On top of it, the acting was pretty bad. I'll give them that the animation was pretty nice, but I wouldn't personally pay $9 for it.

That said, it seemed targetted mainly toward genre fans, who will probably like it more than I did.

I wrote ADV about this, asking if they requested the removal of their titles from the DDD sale. Customer service replied to me saying that they were not even aware of this, and do not have anything to do with what price retailers sell their products for after they are purchased from ADV. So in short, it sounds to me like DDD conveniently made this up so they wouldn't be the object of blame when customers got disappointed about the removal of titles. By the way, I did not enjoy Avenger Complete Collection, for anyone interested in recommendations. It looked fairly nice, but the story was very, very, very weak. But thirteen decent-looking episdoes for 17 bucks isn't too bad. There are reviews on AnimeonDVD.com I think.

Samurai 7... That is one series I won't be buying, no matter the cost. I just sat and watched the first 2 episodes on a demo disc the other night.

I could not stop cringing at how poorly they treated/interpreted Kurosawa's work.

Besides, the limited editions are like... HUGE and there are going to be 7 of them. While tempting to pick up vol 3, it is too much of an investment overall ($175+) in a series that I found somewhat annoying.

edit: anyone who knows what I mean know if it shapes up dramatically after the first couple episodes?

I don't know. I enjoyed the first disc. I don't think it is meant to be so much a direct replica of Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai--which I also thoroughly enjoy, by the way--but more of a tribute which will eventually sort of go in its own direction... Either way, I'm really curious to find out, and I don't think I'll be disappointed with the results if things keep going the way they are. I was actually worried that the series would take a turn for the worse solely because it is based on Seven Samurai, but I was really pleased with this first volume. Besides, I saw the LE packaging at Best Buy for Vol. 1, and I couldn't resist picking this up even though I've yet to pick up Vol. 2. I'm certainly not going to purchase each and every LE set, but it will be cool to have one at least one at such a great price!

I agree that the ADV sales seem kind of worthless now with all the thinpacks being released, but some people might need to fill in gaps and whatnot. As always, buyer beware.

If you're an avid collector that likes his DVD's & cases in perfect condition, you'll want to stay away from the ADV sale. They punch a hole in the UPC on each case. You'll want to read the fine print.

However, if you're like me and just enjoy watching a good series, then this sale will save you some cash. I ordered 4 DVD's from one of their previous sales. Although it took about 4 weeks to arrive, I was thrilled. Everything in good condition (even with the little hole punch) and my free DVD was Generator Gawl, which I happen to like and only owned on VHS.

On to another question: Anyone else find another stock of anime DVD's at their Big Lots??? I've been to 2 and each was totally out of ALL DVD's, which seemed unusual to me. Was there a big sale on Black Friday?

Just be wary of slow shipping, immediate charge to your card, etc. Many people here and elsewhere have decided it's not worth the trouble to order through ADV, but a few have found it worthwhile.

As for the Big Lots question, they seem to run out eventually... Mine did. But then a new rush of DVDs (usually different) comes in after a while of vacancy. It varies, and you just have to keep checking back.
