So...in the history of professional wrestling, what have been some of your favorite "finishers" or finishing moves/holds used by wrestlers?

The Russian Sickle before it became lame.
The Heart Fondation Closeline
The Road Warriors top rop closeline before it became the "Doomsday Device)
Edit to add:
Rick Rude's Rude Awakening

what was the russian sickle?
I have to say right now my favorite is that flip piledriver that Pete Williams does. Jeeeez... its just freaky. And it looks like it could actually cripple someone.

Nikita Kollof. Just a running closeline but looked cool as hell when properly executed.

The "Leg Drop". I mean, every wrestler does it 15 times a match, but when Hogan does it just <i>once</i>, it's lethal. How awesome is that? Plus he gets all that extra power by running across the ring and bouncing off the ropes. Amazing stuff. What a talent.

Old school singles:
Macho's Elbow Drop.
Arn's Spine Buster.
Flair's figure four.
Sting's Scorpion Deathlock.
Orndorff's piledriver.
Bobby's Alabama Jam.
And believe it or not, I really liked when young Watts would slap the STF on his opponents.
Old School Tag Team:
Hart Foundation Leg drop.
Superplex/Splash combo.

I kinda liked that Doink the Clown move where he jumped off the ropes and sat on people. The Whoopee Cushion? hahaha.
Some moves are just dumb. Like when Crush would squeeze people's heads. Or the Swanton Bomb.
Cobra clutch
Figure four
Sharpshooter
Lion tamer (really looked painful)
Non-submissions
Canadian destroyer
Code red (very similar)
Arabian facebuster (if we're counting chairs)
Shooting star press
Snuka's splash (nice to see last night, but sad as well)
I was a huge fan of the Iron Claw. Major mark out moment every match that one of the Von Erichs would slap it on.
And the Worm. ;)
Dubya
11-01-05, 02:43 PM
Magnum T.A.'s belly to belly suplex
Flair's figure four (especially way back in the day when he would say "Now we go to school" before applying it)
The People's Elbow
The Von Erich claw

It's nothing compared to the momentum all that dancing gives the People's Elbow. Set 'em up with the Rock Bottom, but finish them with the Elbow... :)
A lot of finishers are flashy variations of normal moves with a big name anyway. Most are often easy-to-hit, so they can do it even when exhausted.
I like Samoa Joe's finisher, or actually the setup to his finisher, the something buster... I never thought I'd see a move from Kinnikuman in a real ring.
Petey Williams finisher does look deadly, but also looks like it requres a lot of cooperation from his opponent... not that other moves don't.
I like Ken Kennedy's finisher, though I still question how he'll do it on a big opponent after a long match... not to mention that they have to climb up on the rope for him to do it.

Rey's 619, Rikishi's asscrack face-wipe, and XPac's Bronco-buster were the worst. Nobody else ever finds their opponents in those exact positions along the ropes--but somehow these guys always have opponets who need the rope rest.
Jericho

I always liked Rob Van Dam's 5-star frong splash. He just sold it better than others. I have to say there are plenty of finsihing moves that I like though. I mean a shooting star press is just impressive, meanwhile pure power like a spinebuster or a power bomb are classics.
Although some big wrestler should use an airplane spin. Spin around in while swinging your opponent, toss him into a corner, pretend you dizzy and fall down. Then get up for the pin. It would be too comical.

KoKo B Ware's brianbuster type move
Macho Mans flying elbow of the top rope
Chris Jericho's Liontamer
worst finishing move ever...

I actually liked HHH's pedigree back when he actually gave a damn and was really getting after it in the ring. When he did it to somebody who actually willing to go airborne and take it, and he got a lot of height into it, it was like "geez, how does that NOT hurt?"

 It's all about the pre-elbow dance. He generates so much momentum with that, it's just devastating.
In truth, I think my favorite has to be the "Figure Four", but only when preceded by the "Flair Strut" and at least one "WOOOO!"

Really? The Pedigree was always one of those moves that just looked ridiculous to me since the person taking the "punishment" barely takes a hit. I haven't watched wrestling that much since about 00 or 01, but I always remembered very little impact. Like the Tombstone where the person's head is 1 foot away from the actual mat

I don't think so, but I could be wrong. I remember watching a short clip a while back. Maybe HHH deleted all evidence of this incident off the Internet because I haven't been able to find it. The search will continue.

M-Dogg 20's Death Star DDT (shooting star DDT) is awesome.
I also like Doug William's Chaos Effect (hold a guy for a german suplex, roll though into a german suplex with a bridge)
Then there's Petey's Canadian Destroyer.
Kazarian's one man Spanish Fly (standing on the top rope holding the guy for a ock Bottom then flipping over) is always impressive, as is Sydal's top rope belly to belly suplex (he holds the guy the entire way).
One of the guy's in Special K, I think Azrieal, hit basically a Canadian Destroyer but, well it was more of a reverse hurricanrana into a piledriver.
Super Dragon's curb stomp should be a finisher, but his's Pyscho Driver (pump handle piledriver) is nuts too.
Two local guys: Shimma Xion's snap mare driver is sweet and Jason Gory's standing Spanish Fly.
Dan Maff's Burning Hammer (a death valley driver with the guy facing up).
And two more I love, Sabin's Cradle Shock and Abyss's Black Hole Slam.

I see what you're saying, cuz HHH's knees always hit first just like Taker's do, but i remember during one of the ECW invasion angles, Tommy Dreamer took one where he basically landed face first with all of HHH's weight landing on the back of his head. Mankind always took it well, also. But some people refuse to lay out for it, like the post-comeback HBK, who now doesn't even leave the mat

You're right, and I stand corrected after seeing that animated .gif of the pedigree. Plus, I suppose the WWE's crackdown on moves that risk a wrestler's head/neck area following the Steve Austin injury might have to do with it as well.

The Canadian Desroyer. How can you not like that move?
The Diamond Cutter. Mainly because Page would hit it out of nowhere, from almost any position. Orton can't do that.
If we're talking sheer devestation, the DDT. I always loved it when they'd ask Roberts what that meant and he'd say "The End."
For submission moves, any of the whacked-out things Lo- Ki can pull out of his hat, and Tajiri's Tarantula.
Worst finishers:
Rock's "Rock Bottom" and Edge's "Impaler." Same goddam move, but in the Rock Bottom the person landing on their back plays hurt, and in the Impaler the person landing on their stomach plays hurt.
The Torture Rack. Puh-lease. Put me in the rack, save me the money of a chiropractor's visit.
Kevin Nash's powerbomb. Big Lazy can't do it right anymore. I still remember when he damn near killed the Giant (Big Show to you newer folk) at a WCW PPV.

That was actually the 2nd time he tried it. At one of the earlier PPV's when him and Hall were still the Outsiders (a Superbrawl maybe?) he did get him up for one, instead of dropping him on his head. Supposedly he gave himself a hernia doing it though.

Yeah, the 2nd time when Nash botched it was when he came back after one of his "injuries" (I think it was a 5 month hangnail this time), and you could tell he had let himself go. That's why I hate Nash so much as a wrestler... he doesn't seem to give a damn about the safety of his opponent.

I forgot the Diamond Cutter and Superkick. They can both be done from anywhere, and both look like they can lay a guy out for a three count.
Then I found the best finishing move. The guy on the receiving end is Jack Evans. He has the flexablity of Rob Van Dam, the insanity of Jeff Hardy, and he is very flip-tastic, he does a 630, standing shooting star press, standing 450, phoniex splash, double moonsault and the thing Blitzkreig used to do, a standing shooting star with a twist and a flip...you have to see it to understand. The guy is skilled and you can bend him and drop him and brutalize him and he almost never gets injured.
Not even by this. (http://www.wrestle-aid.com/elements/swf/050310/petey.html)
Maybe the Jackhammer, but I can't go with Goldie's spear. His always looked like he was walking up to his opponent, hugging them, and lowering them gently into the ground. Especially when you compared it with Edge or Rhino's spears.

I love the Canadian Destroyer. It's an awesome finsihing move and looks awesome when hit properly.
