Spike Video Game "Awards" 2005

From GameSpot News:

Spike TV sets awards show noms, celebs
Sam Jackson, Vin Diesel, Snoop to stop by annual awards show; WOW, King Kong, Call of Duty 2, and 50 Cent lead contenders.
Spike TV's Video Game Awards show is returning this year, and it's bringing some actors, rappers, and rockers with it. The 2005 edition of the awards show will take place Friday, November 18 in Los Angeles. The show praises the best in the business, as voted on by industry vets, and is accompanied by celebrities and musicians.

This year, Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction, Snakes on a Plane) steps to the mic as the show's MC. Jackson is no stranger to video games, as he won Spike's award for Best Performance by a Human Male for playing a crooked cop in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

Also appearing will be Snoop Dogg (last year's host), Carmen Electra, The Rock, Vin Diesel, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Ozzy Osbourne.

As for the games, Ubisoft's not-yet-released Peter Jackson's King Kong thumped its chest by leading all nominees with seven nods, including Best Action Game and Best Graphics. Is it just me or is it even more obvious this year that certain games just bought nominations (True Crime, King Kong, From Russia with Love, Bulletproof) since most of the "nominees" aren't even out yet.

I was thinking the same thing. It shows how little they really know or care about games. I know I won't be tuning in.

This year, Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction, Snakes on a Plane) steps to the mic as the show's MC.

Not surprising in the least. Also, while I didn't read the whole list, it appears out of those games actually released, most are from just the past few months. But, I never watch any of these attempts at video game shows, so I don't really care.

God when are they going to stop doing these things, they just keep getting worse every year. Even though it's always been obvious the "awards" are bought, this is probably the most blatent money hats with half the game nominies not even being out. It makes me ashamed to be a gamer.

Not to mention the Xbox360 and Unreal Engine 3 are already Breakthrough Technologies of the Year (even though Unreal Engine 3 powered games won't even be available until next year). But hey, the videos looked really sweet!

That is just an insult to video gamers everywhere. I wonder how much Activision will have to pay so they can slap the "Best Action Game of 2005" sticker on True Crime: Streets of NY?
