Sin City TV Series in the Works
Source: Variety October 24, 2005

Variety reports that the Weinstein brothers' newly formed studio, The Weinstein Co., will develop a Sin City TV series:

Also in the works are a [series] based on Dimension Films' "Sin City" -- which would follow in the footsteps of 2006's second pic in Robert Rodriguez's "Sin" series -- and a [series] based on the Miramax title "Rounders," capitalizing on the current craze for poker playing.

The "Sin City" movie franchise moved to the Weinstein brothers' company after they went their separate way from Disney's Miramax Films, which released the first film.

I don't think SIN CITY is going to translate well to TV. The best things about the theatrical version (its raw violence and sexuality) will have to be toned down for television UNLESS they go the HBO/SHOWTIME route, which may be the best thing to do.

Yeah, unless it's HBO: I don't see the series being very good.

How long has it been since a B&W series has been on TV?

I thought there already was a series based on Rounders. It's called "Tilt" and it blew, even though it was created by the guys behind Rounders. Ridiculous

Actually, I found the series to be interesting, and I'm a little sad to not have it back. To there.

Sin City would make a good TV series if they added a sassy black kid and an old granny that uses hip-hop slang.

After watching whatever bizarre gambling reality show CMT is airing these days, I think the Rounders show definitely needs to be reality.

I remember that great B&W episode of MOONLIGHTING, and the George Clooney live FAILSAFE movie a few years back, but I'm not sure that there's ever been an intentional B&W shot series for TV since the 60s. I think it's been used several other times since MOONLIGHTING as a "gimmick" for single epsiodes of series, but I can't recall an entire series in B&W in recent years.

The only way this could work is if it was on HBO.

M*A*S*H used it a few times for the 'documentary to home' type of episodes.

I can't think of an 'on purpose' series, though, either.

The only way I think a Sin City series would work would be if, they put on HBO (other pay cable), and they keep Miller & Rodriguez on as (at least) creative consultants... They other problem, they'll never get all the film's actors to recreate the characters on a TV show...

I also remember them planing to shoot 2 sequels back-to-back... Is that still happening? Right now Frank Miller's the only director listed on Sin City 3: Hell & Back...

And as stated above, Rounders been done as TILT... Wasn't bad, IMO, but I heard the ratings were...

I'm not sure that it would work on TV, it's high-concept art direction really works on the big screen, where you can get away with that level of suspension of disbelief, but I just don't think it would look right on the small screen. And I love the movie!
