The first 30 minutes of this movie are perfect, possibly the best half hour of any teen movie ever made. Once you find out the girl next door is a porn star, the film goes downhill so fast that you almost forget how great the begining was. I watched this on HBO the other week, which is the 2nd time i've seen it. It really frustrates me that such a great beginning turns into such a disappointing mess. The way I see it, this film could have been unbelievably better if the focus had stayed on Cuthbert and Hirsch's relationship, instead of turning into a raunchy comedy about a porn star. I give the first half hour 4 stars, the rest of the movie 1 and a 1/2...does anybody else agree?

Pretty much. Of course, the porn angle was the movie's "twist" on the usual formula. But it just didn't work. It tried to be funny and serious at the same time, but ended up failing as both in an off-putting way.

Kind of reminds me of Prelude to a Kiss with Meg Ryan, first half was great love story and half way through, bam! Body switcher movie, was still good enough to watch again.

Personally, I couldn't agree more. This COULD have been one of the best recent teen comedies since the 80's heyday. Didn't have high hopes going in, however, I found myself quite surprised during the first half of the film and was thoroughly enjoying it. Due to what I see as the catastophic detrailment in the latter half I ended up despising it. So much potential wasted.

I really enjoyed the whole film, and believe it or not, I'm not a big Cuthbert fan. It reminded me a lot of Risky Business - one of my all-time faves.

This movie is one of my favorites as well. Although I have to admit that whenever I hear "The Girl Next Door" I think of the Jack Ketchum novel.

I absolutely loved the movie and never did understand all the bad reviews. It was F'n hilarious and a total riot. My drunk friend who watched it with me agreed although he was laughing A L O T harder =D After that we watched Eurotrip, ah a fun night. Scotty doesn't know !! Thinking about it, I'd honestly rank it below but close up there with Theres Something About Mary, my all-time fav. Its more raunchy but hey... good shit *2 thumbs up*
btw, if you were thinking of this as a date movie, totally wrong movie with lots of immature guy humor. That is probably what leaves a sour taste in some but a delicious taste in the others ;-)

I'm another one who liked it all the way through. I'll admit I went to see it solely because of Cuthbert but the movie itself turned out to be very enjoyable as well.

Nope. In fact I think the movie picked up speed and got better when Timothy Olyphant entered the movie. I was quite surprised how good the movie was.
