So the Batman franchise got a reboot with Batman Begins. James Bond is getting a reboot with the new Casino Royale. Are there any other film franchises* that you guys can think of that are in need of or could benefit from a reboot?

* Some may need a reboot, while others may just need a swift kick in the ass

Alien and Predator. No more Alien vs Predator please.
Oh, and a good Friday the 13th and Halloween movie would be cool.

I don't know specifics but I do know that they're about to start work on another "Highlander" film. I'd like to see that franchise elevated to something better. The foundation - immortals - has a lot of potential. You can take it anywhere/anytime in the past and even kill off characters yet still revisit them via flashbacks, but the franchise has been run into the ground. Heck, I say take a break from Duncan, keep Connor at rest, and try something different. I wish they would license it out to some Asian filmmaker and let them have at it with an Asian immortal for a couple of films.

I agree no more Halloween movies, there hasn't a been a good one since 1978 and there will never be a good one again.

I'd be happy to see them completely restart the Resident Evil franchise.

Godzilla. Give another director a crack at it. Maybe King Kong's success will revive this one.

Updates of the other classic monsters. The Mummy was successful, why not try the other ones?

After seeing Van Helsing, this seems like a really bad idea. Also, I thought the Mummy movies were more about everything but the actual mummy, so for me they sucked.

Maybe Dracula or Frankenstein wouldn't be a good idea, but I'd actually like to see The Wolfman remade, though without an overdose of CGI.

I'd also love to see a decent live-action Tarzan movie that stays true to the pulpy spirit of Burroughs' works.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned "The Mighty Ducks" ;) We may laugh now, but Disney will probably try it within the next couple of years.

The first was a smash, the second less popular but holds its own, but Salavation & Wicked Prayer, with limited budgets and b-list celebs & acting drove this franchise into the ground.

On the other hand Stairway to Heaven, despite using Eric Draven as the centerpiece, turned out pretty decent.

Ghostbusters

Ghostbusters is one movie I hope never gets a "reboot." I take reboot to mean a new installment to revive a languishing franchise (like Batman Begins). Ghostbusters is damn near perfect. The actors are too old at this point to do another movie (I think). The thought of other actors in those roles terrifies me.

How about taking one of the storylines from the Real Ghostbusters cartoon, where they're developing a movie based on the original?

I'm with the other guy...leave it alone. Ghostbusters had a cute idea, but it was the humor of the cast that really brought it to life. They're not going to be able to properly recapture that and...well...I don't see any need to take the basic concept in a different direction.

I would like to see a scary Children of the Corn movie. The first one gave me chills when I was younger, and I remember the fourth one have some scary elements, but if they remade the first one along the lines of TCM and AH, I think it would be a decent film.

Wasn't "Evolution" just Ghostbusters Remix?

I'll have to agree that rebooting this series would be a bad idea as 90% of what made the movie great was the actors in the movie.

I wouldn't mind another "Spaceballs" movie.

I think Alias could defnitely use a robot. Given Sydney's pregnancy, she shouldn't be going on all those dangerous missions, and no one else really has her skill and finesse, and a robot could do the job without the risk of anyone getting killed and...

What?

Oh, reboot.

All those horror movies that had a billion sequels could use a reboot, not that any of them were very good to being with (Friday the 13th being the most braindead of the bunch). Of course, if they were able to strike gold with reboots, they'd just end up sequeling them to death again.

Sounds like some people are mistaking "reboot" for just wanting a sequel. :)

Maybe I'm just out of my mind, but weren't there talks of Ghostbusters III back in the mid 90's, that was going to have Raymond Stantz (Dan Aykroyd) training a new group of Ghostbusters, that was to include Chris Farley and Will Smith, and it was only after Farley's death that the idea was put to rest?

I think Aykroyd was even writing the screenplay.

For true reboots, I would vote for Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon. Those are two franchises that seemed to die after 70's cheese infested their core, but the potential to have either or both of those redone in the same manner as Battlestar Galactica remains. I don't think that we need to start rebooting every old sci fi franchise, but definately these two deserve to have another chance.

I've got a bit of an odd one: Fantasia. I like both the original and the 2000 versions, and there are many more pieces of music that I would love to see taken on in animated form. I would actually like to see some different forms of animation tried, like the style used in Waking Life and maybe get someone like Miyazaki or an japanese anime director to take a section too.

I'd like to see another installment in the Chinatown / The Two Jakes story, but as far as starting over from scratch, let's have it, Allan Quartermain.

I'd like to see Godzilla redone as a psychological thriller.

Okay, but seriously though, Highlander is the only thing I can think of. It looks like they're currently pressing forward with Duncan MacLeod for Highlander 5, which I think is a mistake.

I'd rather seem him team up with Lucas and make episodes 1-5 first.
