View Full Version : I'm looking for "The Best of the Best"

I have decided to spend a day this weekend watching the best 3 or 4 of the cheesy 80's martial arts movies, and I need some suggestions. I'm not looking for the typical Seagal or Van Damme movies, those are far too good, I'm looking for things that are cheesier than Cheese Wiz on a Cheese Um.

I have a few in mind already but could always use some good suggestions...and bonus points go to those movies with great music montage sequences, ya know, like the one in "Karate Kid" "Your the best around, nothins gonna ever keep ya down...."

Here are a few on my list so far:
"No Retreat, No Surrender" - garage training with Bruce Lee's ghost...oh, yeah
"The Last Dragon" - Bruce LeRoy...nuff said
"Best of the Best 1 & 2" Eric Roberts kickin' butt baby

And please, no "Karate Kid" suggestions...as these are far too artful for this list.

Thanks,
Ghoster

Gymkata sounds fun.

From IMDB:
Johnathan Cabot is a champion gymnast. In the tiny, yet savage, country of Parmistan, there is a perfect spot for a "star wars" site. For the US to get this site, they must compete in the brutal "Game". The government calls on Cabot, the son of a former operative, to win the game. Cabot must combine his gymnastics skills of the west with fighting secrets of the east and form GYMKATA!

I forget the name of the movie with Capoera...I have never seen it, but hear it was worthy...any comments.

Thanks

Don't forget, The Best of the Best had at least three sequels.

If early 90's works, Side Kicks is a good one.

Is it with Marc Dacascos? If so, the movie you're thinking of is Only The Strong. It's been a long time since I last saw it but I don't think it was cheesy enough for the OP's criteria. It's not that it's not cheesy. It's just not cheesy enough. I may have to rent it as it was alsways a lot of fun if silly.

Oh and check out Savate. That was rather cheesy.
