Ron Perlman (Hellboy) has signed on to voice Conan of Cimmeria for Swordplay Entertainment's Conan: Red Nails, the first animated film featuring the mythic barbarian, says The Hollywood Reporter.
Marg Helgenberger (CSI) and James Marsden ("X-Men" films, Superman Returns) also are joining the voice cast, which includes Clancy Brown, Cree Summer and Mark Hamill ("Star Wars").
The film will be directed by Victor Dal Chele, with a screenplay by Steve Gold and Timothy Dolan. Gold and Jonathan Bogner are producing. Swordplay's David R. Schwarcz and Patricia Gillum are executive producing along with Peter Sederowsky and Fredrik Malmberg of Paradox Entertainment, owners of the Conan property. Nicholas Temple is the film's co-executive producer.

That sounds pretty cool. I'm glad to see that they're making an effort to adapt Howard's classic stories to film. I'd rather have "Hour of the Dragon" or "People of the Black Circle", but I'll take it.
"Conan: Red Nails" is part of a franchise revival, which also includes a major live-action feature from Warner Bros. Pictures that the studio is committed to producing within the next year.
Principal animation is about to begin on the $4.5 million 2-D/3-D project, which is based on one of Robert E. Howard's most popular stories. "Conan: Red Nails" is set for a summer release by New Line Home Entertainment.
"Being the first full-length animated movie about Conan, we see this as a critical production in our quest to bring the barbarian to new audiences," said Malmberg, head of licensing and creative affairs at Paradox Entertainment, which owns the Conan property.

For me, I won't see it unless it's rated "R". Conan the Barbarian was fantastic, Destroyer was utter shite. Sorry for the threadcrap. :)

Conan's carrying a severed head, so that looks like step in the right direction.

Do you think they'll include the lesbian spanking scene?

No R rating = no sale (of course if it sucks, it's also a no sale, heh)
I'm actually surprised an American company is trying to make a 2-D animated feature again, especially on material like this. Here's hoping for the best, I loves me some Conan.

Anyone heard anything new on this? I'm looking forward to it, but the website has never been updated in all this time and we are already halfway through 2006.

No, and the lack of new information coupled with the site now being "Under Construction" doesn't bode well. With a live-action Conan movie still mulling around in pre-production, maybe they'd decided to can the animated movie and and move forward with that.

Another year gone by and still nothing on this...
Has this DVD just fallen off the face of the earth or what?
***edit
actually after looking up the site it appears they are still working on this as there are blogs dated up to Dec of '07, although they never seem to bring up anything pertaining to when the damn thing might ever come out.

Over at the Robert E. Howard board the general concensus is that this is dead in the water
lack of funds or something

So, I asked one of my guys to look into what happened with this film. They spoke to the production company behind it (as well as Paradox, who own the Conan franchise) and found out the latest.
In short, the project was delayed but it's not dead. They're retooling some of the animation and are now targeting a December 2009 release.
