I went to Blockbuster yesterday (I know craziness) to rent Sleuth and I was suprised that they had it because it's been out of print. So I asked the clerk if they had any for sale just for kicks and he said no. However, he was looking on the computer and he said that there was a 2-discs edition planned for release in March of next year. Has anyone heard of this? If it's true it'd be great. I just watched the movie yesteday and it was excellent.

I went into a Blockbuster the other day and they had the OOP Sleuth DVD. I took it up to the front and asked if I could buy it. They ended up letting me do so, and it cost me only $9.99.
The main reason they let me buy it at this store?
In the two years the store has been opened, the DVD wasn't rented even a single time, so it was pretty much brand new.
I'd buy a 2-disc release of Sleuth in a second.

Well, the OOP one is anamorphic and has a nice little featurette. I can't really imagine a 2-disc set for this, or what would make anyone think it would sell enough to warrent that sort of SE.
It's a great movie, and hopefully will re-appear so those who don't have it can discover one of the best thrillers ever.

The fact that Anchor Bay's release has been OOP for several months now leads me to believe that an upcoming announcement from Fox is quite credible. Personally, as much as I like this film, it's hard to imagine what could possibly fill up that extra disc: a couple of docus on Olivier, Caine, and/or Mankiewicz? Caine views this as one of the key films in his development as an actor, so it's possible that Fox have involved him in some way. But as far as A/V goes, Anchor Bay's (second, black-cover) release was very pleasing, and this is most definitely a release that doesn't need some sort of beefed-up sound.

I now Region 2UK will be re-releasing Sleuth round May 1st.
Any news about a possible re-release of Sleuth 1972 on Region 1?

In a write up of the new version, Entertainment Weekly made certain to bemoan the fact that the 1972 version remains OOP on DVD. I'd imagine they'd know if a new release was on the horizon...

Good grief, I have both Anchor Bay editions. I had no idea it was out of print or that the prices were so high on Amazon and Half.com. Hmm...
Of course if they'll actually sell at that kind of price is another matter entirely.

I have the DVD with the cover where their faces fill the whole cover, with a featurette and trailers, which I think is the second DVD.
Surprised that they didn't put it back in print to capitalize on the remake.
