I noticed at amazon and DDD that there's a DVD of Rock N Roll High School set to come out 12/13/05. Does anyone know anything about this release? I already have the Roger Corman Classics DVD, I was just wondering if there's gonna be anything new on this one, or if it'll just be a reissue?

Corman signed a deal with Disney. Buena Vista will now be doing distribution for Corman for the next twelve years. No word really on if these editions will be anamorphic or packed with features.

interesting posting from marky ramone on his website...
Quick note: I will participate in "the making of rock'n'roll high school" with Roger Corman (producer) and Allen Arkush (director), next week in Los Angeles at Disney Studios.

I'd love to get remastered, anamorphic editions of Rock n Roll High School and Battle Beyond the Stars. Here's hoping...

To answer some of my own question, this is on dvdfile.com:
"And one of modern cinemas great camp classics, Rock N Roll High School gets a new DVD edition from Buena Vista on 13 December, featuring two commentary tracks (one by director Allan Arkush, screenwriter Richard Whitley, and production Michael Finnell; the other by Roger Corman and Dey Young), a new documentary, and (most interestingly) some audio outtakes of The Ramones filming their raucous final scene in the film. This one carries an SRP of $19.99."
The Corman commentary is new, and I think the documentary is too. Don't know about the audio outtakes, as there were some on the other DVD, but they could be different.

no mention of the marky ramone commentary, maybe he never did do it. i think i also read this one will be fullscreen on davisdvd, the other was widescreen. maybe that info was wrong though.

Damn, I see a few retailers are listing this as fullscreen. What gives?

I already own both previous DVD editions, and these guys could've sold me a third copy... if it was widescreen. HOWEVER, if the extras are things I don't have (especially the audio outtakes), there's a possibility I still might get this.

The only thing I have a question about is the 'star-studded soundtrack' which I assume is just referring to the soundtrack on the film, if it included the soundtrack that would be different, but I doubt that. Besides that, 'Plus More!' could be promising, but more than likely it looks like everything is the same as the last release, which, IMO, has a better cover as well.

If RnRHS is unmatted. I guess that won't be 'too' bad since the previous disc was not 16.9 enhanced. I'd rather have an unmatted presentation than a cropped non-16.9 presensation.
Also hopefully it will be restored and uncut. Since the previous dvd is missing the "I need to get laid" dialogue by the preppy as he tries unsuccessfully to pick up some women.
And it would be cool to see the actual theatrical trailer for the film. It is listed on the old dvd release but is nowhere to be found on the dvd!
+ hopefully they are closed captioned as listed on amazon.com. Which will make the release(s) another plus in my book. I do agree that the new covers suck though and pale severley to the great original artwork.

Looking at a picture of the slip cover (yes, I said slip cover) 1.85:1 Enhanced. DD 2.0 Mono

And just incase anyone is curious, Death Race 2000 is 1.78:1 enhanced with the same audio tack as above. Also has a slip cover.

What does 1.85:1 enhanced mean? Forgive my ignorance, I'm a film buff (and should know the answer), and prefer OAR, but if it's unmatted, giving me even more pic, I'd pick this one up....

Short answer for enhanced means that it is anamorphic WS

They blew the anamorphic transfer so I will wait and see if Disney fixes it in a future release. Sucks they can't get something that simple correct in 2005.

These are the exact features from the first version (Roger Corman Classics). Has anyone done a thorough list as to what has been dropped/added/changed with the new version or done a good audio/video comparison?

I'd love a comparison of the extras as well...
... but I assume since this is also a non-anamorphic transfer, that the audio/video would be identical. I can't imagine that they went back to do a new transfer and still didn't make it 16x9.

I see the Buena Vista site I linked above changed their listing to look more like what EvlAsh posted.
So, looks like it lost Interview with Corman, film dedication, and cool book, but gained a new commentary and retrospective. So, looks like I'm gonna need to get this one and keep the original.

I went to college in Los Angeles back in the 1980s. I worked at a movie theater that P.J. Soles came to regularly. She's very cool....was fun talking to her about R&RHS, Halloween, Stripes, etc

Does anybody know if this has the two lines that were missing on the previous DVD (and lasterdisc) release? One bit has a student saying "Oh shit" after Miss Togar introduces herself as the new principal - the other has Tom saying "I need to get laid". It always bugged me that they got cut from the movie.
