Welcome to the Quarter Finals (round here) of the DVDTalk Draft Tournament (2nd Edition)! In this
thread (http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=439069), the players drafted a roster of ten DVDs each. Now, it is up to you, the DVDTalk community, to vote on who has the best collection.
The winner of the game will win a copy of The Fly (Collector's Edition) courtesy of UpcomingDiscs.com (http://www.upcomingdiscs.com).
For round 3, each of the round two winners have been randomly paired up. In order to vote, you need to reply to this post telling me who you think has the best roster. Your vote will not count unless you vote on every pair!
Players in the game are also allowed to vote. Optionally, they are also allowed to post to this thread telling everybody why they think you should vote for their collection.
So, let the voting begin! The polls close exactly 24 hours after the timestamp of this post (not counting weekends). Match-ups will be listed in the first reply to this post.
Good luck to all the participants!

I demand a recount. (I should have put this in bold letters and caps, but I'm a nice guy.)
In my last match-up against Cathespin, I tallied the total score as:
Franchot: 25
Cathespin: 9
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't I be in this quarter final round?

My votes:
1. Scott27 - Tough choice, I liked many of Toben's selections, but also disliked several. Toben probably had more highs/lows in my mind, but Scott27 has a very nice all-around collection. Thus, edge to Scott27.
2. Franchot - Wow, amazing collection. My pick to win it all.
3. Cleaver - Close call, but edge to Cleaver. The LotR EE box set, LoA superbit, Citizen Kane and Simpsons seal the deal.
4. The Ferret - Another close call. Very hard voting against jfrost. Both of these are excellent collections and in my top-3 of the remaining. So... coin flip... The Ferret is tails, tails it is.

Ha, ha. You are sneaky, aren't you? :D2: (You might want to consider a future in politics since you obviously know how to play the game.)
1. Toben - Nothing matches up with Alien Quad and Beastie Boys is the only pick I missed in the round I wanted it all draft (damn you upset stomach!)
2. Franchot - looks better every round. Might have best adventure, thriller, romance (maybe best 2), comedy, drama, and TV show of all time. I only think that about the adventure, though (Truck? what truck?)
3. cleaver
4. The Ferret - my toughest matchup of the draft so far. I broke it down by round and gave it to Ferret 5-4-1. (Couldn't pick Jaws v Ikiru) I broke it down by individual comparables and gave it to Ferret 6-4. When I ranked the movies jfrost had my 1, 2, 7, 8 and Ferret had 3-6. This is the first time I've ever voted against a jfrost DVD draft. Forgive me.

Eh, not much left to pick from, but here goes:
1. Scott27 vs. Toben (Toben's collection contains only two films I like--Donnie Darko and Aliens--and lots of stuff--horror, sci-fi, anime--that I don't)
2. Franchot vs. Mrs.Nesbit (Despite the junky Reservoir Dogs, Mrs. Nesbit's collection is okay, but Franchot has some great classics)
3. Cleaver vs. Count de Monet (this one is obvious, on the strength of Grand Illusion, The Third Man, Taxi Driver, and a couple of the Kubrick films)
4. jfrost vs. The Ferret (too many middling films like The Usual Suspect and True Romance bog down jfrost's collection; The Ferret's only real misstep is Almost Famous)

Yeah, that's how I feel. Which is why I also sprinkled in some lower-brow geek faves like THE THING, SPIDER-MAN 2, MONTY PYTHON, IRON GIANT, etc., hoping to launch a successful attack on two fronts.
Oh well. I've already got THE FLY anyway, so it's not a huge deal for me. If it was a better disc, I might fight for my collection more passionately, but the writing's on the wall. Best of luck to the survivors.

Of the films included in the box set, my favorites are Dr. Strangelove, Lolita, and Barry Lyndon. I also really like Paths of Glory. Spartacus and A Clockwork Orange are pretty good. I don't care for the others, especially 2001. :)

1. Scott27 - I think Toben's is better overall, but Se7en and Sports Night are on my must-always-have list, whereas none of Toben's are.
2. Mrs. Nesbit - While both lists are strong, Fight Club and The Wall were 2 of the first dvds I ever bought and if I had to sell off all but 10 of my dvds, they'd be two of the survivors.
3. Cleaver - I think this is the most difficult match up to judge, but I have a slight preference for Cleaver's list.
4. jfrost - And this matchup was the easiest for me to pick a favorite.

Did it by round matchups this time
1. Scott27 (6-4, very close)
2. Mrs.Nesbit (8-2; I was surprised, because at first glance I thought Franchot would take it solely on the strength of Casablanca).
3. Cleaver (9-1, with Taxi driver being Count's only win. Cleaver's collection is a good mix of classics and guilty pleasures)
4. Jfrost (wow, what an awesome matcup. 6-4.)
