Most Eccentric Hollywood Actor?

Who is the most eccentric actor or actress in the history Hollywood? Who is the oddest thespian that has the worst vices or character flaws?

To get the ball rolling, at the top of my list is the actor Christian Slater, a degenerate man that is seemingly in trouble with the law on a freaquent basis, has many vices (drugs & hookers etc.) and has a solid criminal record.

Another Hollywood legend with a dubious past, was the terminal drunkard, Oliver Reed; a hellraiser and reprobate of the highest order. His early death was very fitting; he died with a glass of booze in his hand.

Who is/was the most dysfunctional actor or Hollywood celebrity that is the most f**ked up.

Hmmm, I don't think they fit the defintion of "eccentric" in my opinion. To me, a better example would be someone like Crispin Glover.

Errol Flynn

Robert Downey Jnr

Richard Burton

Richard Harris

BTW Oliver Reed may have been "a reprobate of the highest order" but like the others on my list he could also be a good actor when the need arose.

Considering there's a thread called "How is Tom Sizemore on welfare?" just a couple below this one, he'd be my pick.

I heard that Slater was buds with Osama in the late 80s.

She only has a dozen films under her belt but first person I thought of was:

Courtney Love

Edit: Just thought of Amanda Plummer. She seems like she'd be a little nutty.

And Vincent Gallo... can't forget about him.

Having just rewatched "My Best Fiend", I'd have to say that Klaus Kinski was pretty damned eccentric. As was Marlon Brando.

BTW, I agree with Giantrobo that the wording of this thread's title and the OP's post is a bit confusing. There's a difference between "eccentric" and "dysfunctional". Eccentric implies odd or weird beliefs and behavior, that may not neccesarily have a negative impact on the actor's well-being and career. For example, Tom Cruise and Shirley McLaine are pretty eccentric characters, but there's nothing really dysfunctional about them. On the other hand, there have been many dysfunctionally destructive actors -- because of drugs, alcohol, sex, money, mental illness -- recent examples being Christian Slater and Robert Downey Jr. I wouldn't call those 2 eccentric -- they just screwed up their lives and careers because of their vices.

Cancer Man, I would really suggest looking up these words before you use them as a main theme of your threads. Between this one and your "dubious politcal agenda" thread, you are creating these threads with good potential but which are confusing.

Crispin Glover also was my first pick.

I know she doesn't play eccentric on screen, but sometimes she comes off and being a bit eccentric. Maybe not as much as others listed here, but she certainly has a unique style...Julianne Moore.

How can we not include Tom Cruise? He knows psychiatry, he's read about it.

I'm surprised no one has said John Malkovich. Although he's a great actor, I always thought he was missing a few screws.

What about Brad Douriff, he seems to be a total screw ball, who excels at playing screw balls (ie. the psycho Maquis officer on Voyager, the mental patient in One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, Wormtongue in the LOTR trilogy, mad scientists, serial killers and straight forward creeps.).

On the TRAUMA commentary, it's suggested that he's a bit crazy.

Whoa...no mention of Val Kilmer?

He just did a movie with Robert Downey Jr. I would have loved to be on the set for that one!

Not exactly the most eccentric, but John Huston is the man. From trivia section on IMDb:

Huston was a licenced pilot...and a prankster. He once flew over a golf course and dropped 5,000 ping-pong balls while a celebrity golf tournament was in progress.

Never got that. Seen her in interviews and never got that impression.

With that said, my first thought was Crispin Glover.

And then we can forget eccentric and go straight to crazy: Anne Heche.
