I love Robbie, but he hasn't been a good player for a while now, unfortunately. Now, ask me about the fact that we decided to buy El Hadji Diouf instead of keeping Anelka after the 2002 season, or the fact that we let the last window end without adding an extra striker, right midfielder, and centre defenceman...

Dear wendersfan,

Why is Grimsby missing from the table? I assume they must be near the top, since they knocked the mighty Tottenham Hotspur out of the Carling Cup.

Sincerely,

Wenger calls for more points for goals

LONDON, Sept 25 (Reuters) - Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has called on the Premier League to offer extra points to encourage more attacking football.

Wenger's suggestion comes amid concerns that the English top flight is losing its lustre, reflected in fewer goals and a dip in attendances.

"What could work is awarding points on the basis of the difference between the goals you score and the goals you concede," Wenger was quoted as telling Sunday newspaper The News of the World.

"You could get an extra point if there is a difference of three, like 3-0 or 5-2.

"That might encourage teams to keep on attacking when they have the lead. There would be an incentive."

The Frenchman, whose brand of attacking football has brought Arsenal seven Premier League and FA Cup trophies since he moved to north London in 1996, also took a historical perspective.

"It is difficult to impose new rules but the intention should always be to win," he said.

"The most successful teams have always been attacking ones. Brazil have won more World Cups than anyone and Real Madrid more European trophies -- both of them always play to win."

English football switched from two points to three points for a win in 1981, while a different experiment in France was less successful.

"In France some years ago we had a system where a team that scored three got an extra point and it didn't really work," Wenger said.

"It was wrong that you could lose a game 5-3 but get the same reward as a 3-3 draw. The experiment was dropped."

ick. what a 2nd half, we had to chase it so I can't blame rafa, and while I like the touches crouch has he hasn't done anything yet to make him look like scoring a goal or 10.

dissapointing but not the end of the world, we chased the game in the 2nd half. and when you do that you expose yourself, I'm still happier with traore there than warnock.

We desperately need four things:

1. Another striker. To partner Crouch. I'm willing to play 4-5-1.... I'd rather play Crouch at AM and then bring in another striker to play up front.
2. A winger. Simao will work, and I know we've put in another bid for him. Joaquin has also been bid for (allegedly).
3. A centre defefnceman. All we have right now is Carra and Hyppia. We desperately need some cover.
4. Someone who can take set pieces. We don't have anyone. Simao could do a job there for sure (which is why I want him over Joaquin)

I have a feeling we're going to do alot of spending in January rather than over the summer. If we can come out of January with Simao and a couple of others, we're going to be alright.

But nobody is going to overtake Chel$ki until Roman gets bored and goes to Italy or another plaything.

Wenger gives up on title after third defeat
October 16, 2005

WEST BROMWICH, England (AFP) - Arsene Wenger virtually conceded the English Premiership title to Chelsea after watching his Arsenal side surrender the lead as they went down 2-1 to West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns.

It was the first time that Bryan Robson's side had come from behind to win in the Premiership.

Arsenal now have a 14 point deficit to make up and even though they possess a game in hand over Chelsea, the French manager feels that it is too big a gap for his team to make up on Jose Mourinho's run-away reigning champions.

"At the moment it does not look likely that we can catch Chelsea. Let's get our injured players back first, but right now Chelsea are not even a worry for me," said Wenger.

"I have got more important things to worry about. We do not even talk about the title. The most important thing I am concerned about is winning our next game."

Arsenal's next encounter is in the Champions League against Sparta Prague and they will have to try to win without Swedish international Freddie Ljungberg who limped off in the first half to join the growing number of injured players at Highbury.

"Freddie will be out for three weeks with a hamstring injury," moaned Wenger.

"It is very difficult for us when we have so many experienced players out injured. My team looked like a youth team against West Bromwich Albion."

The Frenchman's mood has not been helped by the loss of 10 million pounds (18 million dollars) signing Alexander Hleb for two months with a cartilage problem and he remains very angry with the Belarus international management set up for costing him the services of the midfielder.

Hleb had surgery to repair the damaged cartilage on Friday and Wenger said: "They played him when they had scanned him and they knew he had a cartilage problem.

"They wanted to inject him and to play him in a meaningless game. That is not right.

"The international teams do not care about their players, even when they play for nothing. I find that very difficult to accept and something has to be done about it."

West Brom manager Bryan Robson ended a run of six games without a win and eased some of the growing pressure on himself with the surprise victory, courtesy of Darren Carter's wonderful second half goal after Nwankwo Kanu cancelled out Philippe Senderos' first goal for Arsenal.

Albion moved out of the bottom three with only their second win of the campaign and Robson believes beating a side of Arsenal's class could help inject some confidence into his squad for the rest of the season.

"To come from behind to beat a side of the quality of Arsenal is a fantastic testament to the spirit of my players.

"They showed that in the second half. Hopefully that can be the turning point for us this season. It will give us great self-belief."

Swiss defender Senderos muscled his way past Curtis Davies to give the visitors the lead on 17 minutes, applying the decisive touch to Jose Antonio Reyes' corner.

Kanu scored against his old club seven minutes before the interval firing home a vicious shot past Jens Lehmann.

Dutch international Dennis Bergkamp was making his 400th appearance for Arsenal and was given the captain's armband for the day.

But it was to end in disappointment as substitute Carter smashed home an incredible winner just seven minutes after joining the fray.

The England under-21 international, who joined West Brom in the summer from Birmingham City, unleashed an unstoppable volley to give Albion only their second league win in nine games this season.

The sucking of Liverpool, Arsenal, and Newcastle is kinda surprising. It isn't all that surprising once you think about it. Liverpool are not a very high quality squad, they just had a tremendous run of luck in last season's Champions League. Arsenal are without Viera this season, Lehmann is not the greatest keeper, and their squad keeps aging. Newcastle are probably relying too much on Owen to cover up their multitude of other inadequacies, and Owen has never shown himself to be a winner anywhere.

Everton's collapse is even worse (and by worse, I mean better :)) than I had dreamed... I joked after they made the CL that they'd "pull an Ipswich" but it's happening in reality. And looking at their upcoming schedule, they might still be stuck on 6 or 7 points come Christmas.

Liverpool will come around, especially after the January transfer window. Just some injuries, coupled with summer moves falling through, coupled with having to play more games than anyone else in the PL (all 3 rounds of CL qualifying, the Super Cup, the upcoming Intercontinental Cup...), and coupled with a few other problems has led to the slow start. They'll be 3rd or 4th by May.

Arsenal are without Viera this season, Lehmann is not the greatest keeper, and their squad keeps aging.Lehmann is a great keeper. You don't go unbeaten with a scrub in goal. The defense is not up to scratch, though, even if Pascal Cygan is the team's second-leading scorer.

Besides selling Vieira, the following players have had extended absences through injury:

Cole
Ljungberg
van Persie
Hleb
Henry
Campbell
Bergkamp

I'd say that explains Arsenal's sucking. On the other hand, they're top of the group in the Champions League, looking good there early for the first time in a while.

Fascinating article, IMO

Has Abramovich Killed English Football?

10/17/2005 6:19:00 PM

It is only just over two years since Roman Abramovich and all of his millions arrived on these shores, yet the Russian billionaire has already managed to change the shape of English football so dramatically and quite possibly for ever.
If you are a Chelsea fan you’re probably already sighing at yet another Chelsea-bashing article, be it about Mourinho’s arrogance, their perceived boring football, or their mega-rich owner, but this is in no way a dig at the Premiership champions, but a genuine concern at what the future holds for the English game.

During the mid-90’s most non-Manchester United fans used to bitch and moan about the stranglehold Sir Alex Ferguson’s side had on the rest of the top flight and their domination was irritating, but in hindsight we can all look back and realise that United had not monopolised the Premiership, but it was in fact healthy competition. Liverpool in the 1980’s was even more extreme, but both these were just phases of success that happens in every sport in every country.

However, Chelsea could be a totally different story. Granted it is probably stupid to compare the Blues to either of those great sides after just one Championship, or surely that should be two as this one is as good as won already… yes I am saying that in October. Chelsea WILL win the league this season and WILL win it again next season and by then everyone will be bored sick of them and probably the Premiership. Why am I so confident? Well, they have the best team at the moment, by some considerable margin, and if they have any kind of problem they can just throw money at it and buy a better player. Nobody else can, so how can anyone else compete?

What happens if Chelsea win the title for the next ten years without fail? What happens if they win the title by 20 or 30 points each time? Where will be the fun in that? It would make the Scottish Premiership for the past decade look open and at least they had two horses.

Basically I’ve admitted that Chelsea have won, they are the best and will be the best for as long as they have one of the richest men in the World owning them. There probably are still many of you that don’t see Chelsea as being that far ahead of United or Arsenal and are hopeful that Jose Mourinho’s side are due a loss of form, but sadly I am not so hopeful.

So I’ve been looking to the future and frankly it scares me. There are no realistic scenarios as to how we can return the Premiership to how it was pre-Abramovic that I’d be happy with. For example, there could be a rival to Chelsea if some other multi-billionaire takes over another club and throws their fortune at them, but what is the fun in that? The Premiership would become a billionaires playground and all the clubs unfortunate not to have their own billionaire would be unable to compete, regardless of the hardwork they put in, as in this World money rules.

So how else can other clubs compete with Chelsea? Suggesting a points handicap, or a breakway is just fantasy, but perhaps capping transfer fees and wages is an option worth considering. If every club in the World were restricted to spending say £20m a year on players then the likes of Chelsea couldn’t just go and buy all the talent they wanted, but in truth would this policy work? Probably not, as it would never be agreed.

Similarly, clubs could be forced to operate without investment, so that clubs had to generate profit, which they could spend on improvement, rather than their rich owner dipping into their deep pockets. This is how clubs like Charlton and Bolton have had to operate for years and that is what irritates me the most about how one man can, with a click of his fingers, emulate and succeed generations of hard-work by other clubs.

What do you suggest be done to stop Chelsea and stop the spread of billionaires using their money to decide on who wins the Premiership?

I'd say that explains Arsenal's sucking. On the other hand, they're top of the group in the Champions League, looking good there early for the first time in a while.Bear in mind I didn't say Lehmann was a "scrub", I just said he wasn't the greatest. He was certainly a washout at AC Milan, facing a much more intimidating set of attackers each week in Serie A than he'll ever face in the Premiership. And I would contend that injury problems are indicative of an aging squad, not a contrary reason for lack of success.

I predict Arse to kick Wigan's arse... Wigan had alot of the lower end teams early on... Their next few games are going to put them in their place. It's nice to root for the underdog and see a cinderella story, but I just don't think Wigan has it in them to stay where they are. They certainly belong in the top 5 or 8 - more than alot of the teams in the league with their craptacular performances this year. Besides - Arse has been doing really well now that most of their players are back from injury.

That said - I hope Wigan kills them.

Fri 18 Nov, 1:38 PM

MANCHESTER (Reuters) - Captain Roy Keane shocked English soccer on Friday by leaving Manchester United in mid-season after more than 12 years at the former champions.

Midfielder Keane, 34, joined United in 1993 from Nottingham Forest for a then British record fee of 3.75 million pounds and has been the lynchpin of Britain's most famous club for a decade.

Keane helped United win the Premier League seven times as well as the league and FA Cup double in 1994, 1996 and 1999 when United also won the European Cup.

He was the on-field mirror image of United manager Alex Ferguson - tough, uncompromising and interested only in winning - and the Irishman's departure after 326 league games for United signals the end of the most successful era at Old Trafford.

Keane, who has not played since September 14 because of injury, recently criticised team mates for lack of effort in a club TV interview which was never shown, and earned a public rebuke from Ferguson.

On Friday, Ferguson said Keane has been a "fantastic" servant for the club.

"The best midfield player in the world of his generation, he is already one of the great figures in our club's illustrious history," Ferguson said.

"Roy has been central to the success of the club in the last 12 and a half years and everyone at Old Trafford wishes him well in the rest of his career and beyond."

MISSED FINAL

United achieved a treble in 1999, including the club's second European Cup, but, having been instrumental in leading them to the Champions League final in Barcelona, Keane missed the dramatic 2-1 victory over Bayern Munich through suspension.

In September, Keane said he was likely to leave at the end of the season when his United contract ran out. Media reports say United have been actively pursuing Bayern Munich playmaker Michael Ballack to take Keane's place.

"The agreement allows Roy to sign a long-term deal with another club to enable him to secure his playing career beyond what would have been the end of his contract at United in the summer," United said on Friday.

Media reports have linked Keane with Scotland's Celtic and he is widely seen as having the credentials to coach a top team. The Ireland national team manager's job is currently vacant.

United have not won a trophy for the past two seasons and struggled in the early stages of this season to keep pace with champions Chelsea in the Premier League. They are currently fourth in the league, 10 points behind leaders Chelsea.

Keane said: "It has been a great honour and privilege for me to play for Manchester United for over 12 years.

"During my time at the club I have been fortunate to play alongside some of the best players in the game and in front of the best supporters in the world.

SAD DAY

"At all times, I have endeavoured to do my best for the management and the team. While it is a sad day for me to leave such a great club and manager I believe that the time has now come for me to move on.

"After so many years I will miss everyone at the club. I send my best wishes for the future to the management, players, staff and supporters of the club."

Ireland's Keane bowed out of international football last month after 66 caps, two days after the country's World Cup hopes ended in a match the injured player could only watch.

Manchester United said they had offered Keane, one of the most controversial figures in English football, a testimonial in recognition of his time at Old Trafford.

United chief executive David Gill said: "Roy has been a towering figure at the club for over a decade. His dedication, talent and leadership have been qualities that have marked him out as one of the true greats."

Earlier on Friday, United announced that winger Cristiano Ronaldo had agreed a two-year contract extension that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2010.

The 20-year-old and has become a first-team regular in attack alongside Ruud van Nistelrooy and Wayne Rooney.

Since Liverpool is by far my favorite team, let me say...

I want him nowhere near this team. I want him as far away as possible. We don't need him (where would he play in our central midfield? I wouldn't put him ahead of Xabi or Stevie right now) and don't want him.

Let him go to Everton. They deserve a low-class player like him.

I don't think Arsenal would want him.

As was said above... he's either going to sign with Celtic or be named ROI manager. I'd lean towards him signing with Celtic.

What the hell would Arsenal do with him? The last thing they need is another overpaid, over the hill player with chronic injury problems.

Don't get me wrong - I think Keane was one of the half-dozen finest central midfielders in the world, c. 1999. Now he's of little use to a team with the kind of ambitions Arsenal should be having.

If they're smart, they'll go after Ismail Aissati. Just turned 17, only played a few matches for PSV on the top level, but he's already playing like he's been doing it for years. Reminds me a bit of Federer (the tennis player). Best talent in midfield I've seen since Zidane. I hope he'll be playing for Holland instead of Marocco......

So many young midfielders in the past few years have been called "the next Zidane" that it's lost all of its meaning. :)

Does Keane's departure leave Ryan Giggs as the guy with the longest current tenure at Man U?Giggs had the longest tenure even when Keane was a United player. Giggs was signed in '90, Scholes and Gary Neville in '91, and Keane not until '93.

I think Keane will go to another league - probably in Spain or something... I kinda agree with Wenders though that Celtic seems a likely choice.

By the way - any early predictions on which teams are going down and which are coming up? Obvious choices are Sunderland and Birmingham going down. I also kinda think Aston Villa or Ports... Coming up it looks like Sheff Utd and Reading... I've also got my eye on Leeds to come back and Wolverhampton.

Wigan is doing a great job hanging in there - they've got alot of tough games ahead and yet in current form, premierleague.com has them as 1st place ahead of Chelsea. Odd. Can't wait for the game tomorrow against Arse - good friggin luck. Although Arse has alot of their key defenders out on injury I guess... we'll see.

Barring a monumental collapse, Wigan will be staying up. They currently need 9 points from 27 games to reach the level that would've been safe last year.

Why would he do that? He's more likely to be coaching in the Prem next year if he stays at Sheffield Utd than if he goes to Pompey, who are just horrible and are looking pretty likely to take the big drop to the Championship next year.

That being said, from everything I've read about him saying, he's a big idiot, so maybe he should go to Pompey and take the drop.

Liverpool have a pretty favourable schedule to get something going before the end of the year. There's going to be a major momentum break there with the World Championships in December, but if they win that, the £4.5 million prize money goes a long way, plus the mental boost that comes from it.

(and I'm gonna have to be having some 5 AM wakeups for that. Gonna remind me of the 2002 World Cup)

How the heck does a fat man like Lampard have so many goals, anyways?

Liverpool are on an absolute roll now. I think that Rafa is finally making his mark on the team. Liverpool right now are looking a whole like those Valencia sides that Rafa took to the Spanish championship. Add another winger (looks pretty assured that either Simao or Joaquin will come in January), a center defender, sell off that idiot Cisse, buy a target man, and you have a side that's going to be up at the top of the table all year, and one that has a damn good chance to take the title next year.

BTW, tomorrow will be 2-0 to Liverpool, and Crouch will score his first.

Liverpool 2-0 Boro ... Mori gets his first 2 league goals of the season and Liverpool ensure they'll be at least 3rd when they go to Japan

7 league wins in a row, 10 straight games with a clean sheet. Yeah, I'm thinking that Rafa now has this team right where he wants it.

Terrible officiating in the Newcastle-Arsenal game today. Gilberto sent off for 2 minor fouls, and Shearer stayed on the pitch despite 3 potential sending off offenses and 1 booking. The highlight was when he grabbed Lauren by the throat and threw him on the ground, and was awarded a free kick himself.

I hate shearer for that very reason. hes a nonce and gets away with every foul.

The publication claims that the 34-year-old midfielder had a medical in Britain on Saturday.

Arsene Wenger may become their new manager, a offer of £5 million for 3 years is said to be on the table.

Wenger isn't going to Madrid. Neither is Benitez or any other manager of any import.

Nobody wants to coach there because of the managment system that's in place.

Plus the fact that even if a coach were to win every Spanish domestic cup, the Primera Liga, and the Champions League, there's still a 50/50 shot he'll get fired.

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of the storm
Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark

Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone

9 wins on the trot. If we win our two games in hand we're 9 points behind Chel$ki. If we win against them when we play them at the Bridge we're 6 points back. The title race is not over yet.

Liverpool make it 10, Chavs win again.

It's a shame that Roman's money has caused this... could be a great going on in the title race between Liverpool and ManU right now, but instead it's everyone playing for second. Shame.

Guess Liverpool will have to settle for the FA Cup/Champions League double. :)

Crouch has to be Player of the Month, and Rafa has to be Manager of the Month (again).

ALOT of rumours going on with Liverpool in the upcoming window. Biggest amongst them is Daniel Agger, one of the best young centre backs in the world, and a great understudy to take over for Hyppia one day. Jermaine Pennant is another one. The two of them together would cost about £10 million and would be a great pair of signings (even with Pennant's problems, he's still a good talent, and Rafa can turn him around)

Arsenal going well at home
Tue 03 Jan, 1:48 PM

Arsene Wenger has warned Manchester United that Arsenal are in potential title-winning form at home this season ahead of Tuesday's clash.

The Gunners have dropped just three points at home in the Premiership - losing to Chelsea - a record which is eclipsed by only Jose Mourinho's side with their 11 home league victories.

The only problem for Wenger is that their away form is almost worthy of relegation candidates, with just eight points from 10 Premiership games.

The net result is that they are down in sixth place ahead of Tuesday night's clash at Highbury, but Wenger was doing his utmost to talk up his team's fortunes to boost pre-match confidence levels.

"It's down to us. This team can make a quick step forward and we can make you all wrong. We have until May and I'm a great believer that there is a lot lot more to come from my team," he declared.

"First of all, if we had the same form away from home as at Highbury, we would be fighting Chelsea for the title in a normal season.

"What we have to correct is our away form. We lost too many games because we were not concentrating enough defensively.

"People rule us out at the moment but it is down to us to prove them wrong. There is a big potential in the side and it will come out in 2006.

"It's down to how much we believe we will come back. In 1998, we were sixth or seventh at Christmas and we came back well, so don't rule us out too quickly."

Arsenal have nevertheless won just two of their last six league games, having been over-run by Bolton, Newcastle and Chelsea, especially in midfield.

Gilberto could at least be ready to return after injury to strengthen the central midfield, even if Freddie Ljungberg and Robin van Persie are ruled out with a virus and knee problem respectively.

Wenger insists his team can match United physically, even if the departures of Patrick Vieira and Roy Keane may lead to a slightly less combative fixture.

"Maybe sometimes Keane and Vieira made it a little bit more physical because of their stature, but there is still a lot at stake and you expect an intense game," he said.

While Wenger and Ferguson have clashed in the past with their verbal encounters, they now share one common problem - even if it has not brought them any closer.

Wenger concluded: "At the moment, what we have in common is that we are chasing Chelsea, who are at a high pace.

"But I have no contact with any other manager in the league. Everyone focuses on his own job and there's nothing malicious in that."

Tue 03 Jan, 5:21 PM

Espanyol midfielder Albert Riera has joined Manchester City on loan until the end of the season, according to the Spanish club.

City manager Stuart Pearce looks to have finally got his man after opposite number Miguel Angel Lotina agreed to part with the left-sided player, who joined the Primera Liga outfit in the summer from Bordeaux.

City have the option of buying the 23-year-old at the end of the season for £3.5m.

The former Mallorca player has only started four games for Espanyol this season, three of which were in the Uefa Cup, and on Friday he met with Lotina to discuss the offer from City.

"I could not promise him minutes and I understand that Riera had an offer which would open doors for him as well as allow him to be better paid," Lotina told Marca.

"On top of this, he has the option of returning here in June or completing his move if they buy him.

"We have a lot to gain and little to lose. Players are those that decide their futures and it is not down to the coaches."

Starts with Robbie Fowler scoring the 3rd in City's win over United, then Liverpool beat tottenham 1-0 from a blinding harry kewell goal. To leave us 1 point behind Man U, with 2 games in hand and us playing them next week. They were very poor today.

Arsenal demolish a terrible boro 7-0..

And fowler reminds the united supporters how many times Liverpool have one the Champions League.

Truthfully, I've thought that, but then again, from the progress of his career since then it was probably the right decision, football-wise and business-wise.

Then again, if Rafa were to bring him in right now as the 4th striker, it'd make me very, very happy.

So Newcastle is approaching relegation zone in terms of points... I think that would be incredible to see them relegated - not that it would happen. I'd love to see a major team take a dump like that... like Leeds did. Shake things up.

Out of the bottom of the bunch, here's my current predictions...

Newcastle United - will pull themselves out of the funk and be fine.
Aston Villa - looking really sharp lately and they'll be safe as well.
Charlton Athletic - they won't hit relegation, but they will hover around the bottom
Fulham - looking good lately, will improve.
Everton - also looking good lately and will stay up another season.
Middlesbrough - Say goodbye... they're gonna be gone.
West Bromwich Albion - They are fighters and they'll hang with the big boys one more season.
Portsmouth - Battle with Birmingham for 3rd from bottom... I pick them to go.
Birmingham City - Battle with Ports - will stay up.
Sunderland - hahah... god... they are going to break records for sucking and then they're gonna come back up next year.

Coming up from Champions league:

1. Reading - looks like a sure thing.
2. Sheff Utd - also pretty much a sure thing.
3. Leeds United - will probably end up coming up, and they deserve it... but...
5. Crystal Palace - wouldn't mind seeing this team come back up or...
8. Wolverhampton Wanderers - this team come up.

This one airs thursday.

Great win for the pool today, dominated the Arsenal, and looked like it would be another goalless game, but lil luis saves teh day!

Yeah - it's no big deal... it's just that I don't buy the ppv games... I just watch em on FSC. Half the time, my friend just tells me the results he reads on the EPL website anyway and spoils the games. I'd appreciate spoiler tags, but I don't expect them.

A ground out result for Liverpool, but still a result, and level on points with united, but they have a game in hand.

in the carling cup final

as expected United Won the day, and no longer is it considered a mickey mouse trophy, although slur alex "rested" RVN. 4-0 to united.

Cant believe Liverpool couldnt get a goal(least one that counted) against Charlton after totally dominating them for 90 minutes.

Best match of the weekend that i saw was Tottenham/Blackburn which makes me think what a good fit Robbie Keane would have be in Liverpool red.

No surprise though it was a real good performance, but no composure, alonso changed the game when he came on, rafa has one eye on wed v benfica.

the spurs/rovers game was a good game, free flowing and some good goals, bring pongolle back to liverpool stat!

I think the consensus is that liverpool need to go ahead and buy ruud van nistelrooy.

Fantastic matches... Only caught the Arsenal/Liverpool highlights, but it looked like a similar game to the Manchester U/Newcastle game which was great. Spurs vs Chelsea was a good match, but I'm really tired of seeing that result. The Villa/Blackburn game was disappointing, but expected I guess - Villa put alot of heart into it. Everton v Fulham was also a bit of a disappointment... guess it's good to see Everton climbing though. Sunderland lose again - hmm... maybe it wasn't their manager after all.

Who's gonna feed him the perfect ball so he can score though?

Im not a huge fan but i like the team.I kinda wish i had a favorite team but i always followed the England national team mainly and didnt get into the league stuff till last year when hockey was on strike but my boss is from Liverpool so i have to cheer for them ;) I also like Newcastle and Tottenham too :)

That's a better fit than Liverpool. At least he can be with another national teammate - Van der sar doesn't seem too personable anyway. Davids will probably get him high.

At least 3 games, might be more added on due to some gestures he made towards the crowd.

I think I may hate Chelsea more now than I hate Everton or the Mancs. And I find that difficult to accept.

I like Everton... *shrug*

The gestures he made were repeated thumbs down to the crowd. Not very mature, but not as bad as Cisse's "check out my huge balls" gesture that got him nothing. I hope Gallas being gone will spell disaster for Chelsea and give Liverpool and ManU a chance at 1st.

Who would've thought the best game this weekend would be Brough v Bolton?

Anyone see chelsea cheat their way to victory again? Oh, we spent a billion pounds on our squad and then we'll send them to diving class and an acting workshop since they don't have enough collective skill to win a game without ill-gotten free kicks.

Really need Sunderland to pull off the upset of the year today so Liverpool have a chance to finish 2nd... although the top 3 are pretty much locked in now with 1. Chelsea 2. ManU 3. Liverpool

How much trouble are Arsenal in if they don't win the CL and they can't overtake Spurs for 4th? (that draw with Pompey earlier in the week was huge). They'll be going into a new stadium with no CL, and probably no Henry. That's going to create a serious money crunch (they're already in trouble with no CL, as has been reported).

Even if they win CL i dont think they qualify for next years CL do they? Didnt they say after Liverpool got that exception that it would not be done again? So they do need that 4th place finish me thinks but id be happy to see the Spurs take that ;)

a) Henry's not leaving.
b) They changed the rule; the winner of the CL qualifies.

wildcatlh
04-14-06, 09:28 PM
Henry's likely leaving if they don't reach the CL. I'm not sure if they can afford to keep him.

And yeah, UEFA changed the rule. The CL winner automatically qualifies, and they take a spot from their country if they wouldn't have otherwise qualified, so Spurs could end up being shut out even if they go 4th.

Meanwhile, Sunderland's going down, but great fight to draw with ManYoo today. Gives Liverpool a chance to end up in 2nd.
