DVDTalk Draft Game…The Grand Finale!

Welcome to the Finals of the DVDTalk Draft Tournament! In this thread, the players drafted a roster of ten DVDs each. Now, it is up to you, the DVDTalk community, to vote on who has the best collection.

We are now down to the last two collections. Congrats to our finalists, who each had to beat some stiff competition to get here. In order to vote, simply fill out the poll attached to this thead. Note that this is a public poll. Furthermore, feel free to add comments to this thread telling us why you voted how you did.

Players in the game are also allowed to vote. Optionally, they are also allowed to post to this thread telling everybody why they think you should vote for their collection.

So, let the voting begin! The polls closes tomorrow, exactly 24 hours after the poll was posted. Match-ups will be listed in the first reply to this post.

Good luck to both our finalists!

jfrost, for me your collection here gives quite a wide range of variety, not that slop101's doesnt. slop101 has some great titles but a few I personally dont care for.

It's been fun, good luck.

Citizen Kane, Goodfellas, Bridge on the River Kwai, and Life Aquatic would have had me thinking slop101 by a bit. The Led Zeppelin dvd sealed the win.

My 2 favorite drafts besides my own, I'm going with slop101. By the numbers I've got
FOTR EE vs Brazil CC - edge jfrost
Se7en PE vs Citizen Kane - edge slop101
Gladiator EE vs Goodfellas - edge slop101
Memento LE vs BotRK LE - edge slop101
Die Hard Trilogy vs Led Zeppelin - edge slop101
Taken vs Deadwood - push
Royal Tenenbaums vs Life Aquatic - push, maybe a slight edge to jfrost
Spirited Away vs Bambi - edge jfrost
Panic Room + Brotherhood of the Wolf vs Dr. Strangelove + Short Cuts - edge slop101

The strength of Brazil, Citizen Kane, Goodfellas and Dr. Strangelove tipped the scales for me.

This was a fun game. let's do it again some time!

I chose jfrost. While I love Citizen Kane and Goodfellas, Bambi, Deadwood, and Dr. Strangelove just don't do it for me. The highs in Slop's collection are higher, but I found jfrost's collection to be more consistent top-to-bottom.

slop101 in a blow-out. Like far too many events, the rounds leading up to the final battle were better matchups...

Neither collection does much for me, but slop101's is obviously better. jfrost's choices reflect the tastes of a cool middle-schooler--the only film more than 7-8 years old is Die Hard!

slop101 gets my vote rather easily.

In the earlier rounds, it's a close contest. I think jfrost did a lot with his early picks. However, in the later rounds, the collection falls apart (in my eyes, at least). I won't match them up by genre like some have before me, because I don't think Bambi and Spirited Away, or Die Hard and Led Zeppelin, or Se7en and Citizen Kane...are similar enough to make that worthwhile. Instead, I'll just judge based on what each person did with their available picks for that round.

Pick by pick:
1. Fellowship of the Ring EE vs. Brazil CC - jfrost (barely)
2. Se7en Platinum vs. Citizen Kane - slop101
3. Gladiator (EE) vs. Led Zeppelin DVD - Push
4. Memento LE vs. Goodfellas 2-disc - jfrost (barely)
5. Die Hard Trilogy vs. Bridge on the River Kwai 2-disc - slop101
6. Panic Room 3 disc SE vs. Life Aquatic CC - slop101
7. Taken (TV) vs Deadwood Season 1 (TV) - slop101
8. Brotherhood of the Wolf CE vs Dr. Strangelove AE - slop101
9. Royal Tenenbaums CC vs Bambi 2-disc - slop101
10. Spirited Away vs. Short Cuts - slop101
Results: slop101 (7), jfrost (2), one push.

Thank you! Frankly I have never seen the appeal and couldn't believe when he knocked out Franchot and Drexl

It's getting closer, so I'm gonna make one final case for my collection -

If you look at my 10 picks, you'll see that I went for a wide variety of titles: drama, comedy, action, music, war, gangster, western, animation (just about the only thing missing is horror and foreign). I've also made an effort to represent every decade from the '40s on up to now. Not only are the actual programs on my dvd picks of the highest calibur, but all of their technical aspects (audio/video) and extras are all beyond reproach.

Thank you for reading and vote slop!

Slop101 because it has greater variety and isn't all contemporary films. Plus it has Bambi. How can it not win.
