Did the video release of Left Behind actually predate the theatrical release? Either way, that doesn't count as "leaving" theatres before hitting DVD.

I think "Carlito's Way: Rise to Power" was actually released in a couple of theaters, or at least it was PLANNED to be released in theaters, but now it's coming to DVD on Sept 27, OUCH!!

Surviving Christmas was quicker than From Justin to Kelly. From the day Justin to Kelly came out in theatres to the day it came out on DVD was 67 days. Surviving Christmas only took 60.

Granted it was a movie from another country, but Blackball was released theatrically in the US on Feb 11, 2005 and came out on DVD in the US on Feb 15, 2005.

OP, I think perhaps "shortest time between theatrical release and DVD release" may be the wording you really want. There have been a number of films that have been released on DVD that were still playing in their original theatrical run; Lost in Translation was one, and Crash is out on DVD and still playing in theaters as of 9/20/2005. So in those cases the amount of time between leaving the theater and release on DVD was "none".
Or perhaps "movies that bombed and were out of theaters so quickly that you didn't know they were there and then were immediately released on DVD". I heard such bad reviews of Sound of Thunder (to be fair, the production company went bankrupt during the production of the film), and I kind of like to catch movies that get horrific reviews just for the watching-a-car-crash factor, that I wanted to see it, but it was gone before I had the chance. It opened 9/2/2005; by 9/16/2005 it was out (in Atlanta, anyway). I think theaters typically have to commit to two weeks on most major studio new releases. We'll have to see when (or if) it is announced for DVD.
That being said, the lines on this will be blurred in upcoming months as Steven Soderbergh and Mark Cuban's 2929 company have announced a deal to release several moves to theaters, DVD, and cable on the same day. Disney CEO Robert Iger floated the idea of doing same-day theater and DVD releases as well.
An intresting article about the theater-to-dvd window is here:
