I bought this from a friend leaving the country, I have no idea where he got it. There's no UPC, and I can't even find a listing on eBay/half.com, or anywhere online for this version! The only two things I can think of is that it's a Canadian version he got online, or it comes in one of those cardboard sleeves, and the UPC is on the back of that box. I'm asking because I downloaded my profiler (http://www.intervocative.com/), and that software doesn't even have an option for this version (based on cover art).

Here's a pic of the front/back of the case:

I think I found the answer. The back has (in very small letters) "custom cover designed by Swarez". Google pulled up a few forum posts, mostly gone or archived offline. I did find this (http://soundsrisky.virtualaftershock.com/), though. They interview a guy who does custom covers, and he said this 3/4 down the page, underneath Doom III art):

VA: Which custom cover artist has inspired you the most and why?

SR: I would have to say all of the artists out there inspire me to keep working and trying to better myself. I think two of the more interesting artists out there though are bunnydojo and Swarez.

So it looks like this Swarez guy designs custom covers to replace boring studio art. The paper is very high quality, the colors are bright, and it has an excellent finish. I'd never know this if I hadn't looked for the UPC!

He also posted here (http://www.twitchfilm.net/archives/000741.html) (fifth reader comment) about a custom cover. I had no idea high this niche even existed, but with the way some studio art looks, I can understand why.

Maybe I do, maybe I don't. Unless you know me or you're trying to get into mine, I don't see why it's your business. It has nothing to do with this site!

Hmmm...an awkward silence in a message board thread?

I prefer the original images from the theatrical, rental store posters, designed by the movie studios for all DVD front cover artwork, rather than the custom designs created.

Don't worry... now that Mike Lowrey is gone, you sexuality is safe from ridicule!

Hell, I'm not even sure if you like the redux cover. :scratch2:

Hmmm . . . that was strange.

I personally think the original cover is pretty good, minus the quotes. The cover is actually what prompted me to blind-buy the movie, and I'm glad I did.

 Really? Was he banned?

As for the prickly correspondence earlier, I think there was a bit of a misunderstanding. I would guess the TomOpus’ comment was misinterpreted as being directed to the owner of the custom cover, when he might have meant someone in the general public.

Anyway, thank God we do not have to deal with base comments from Lowery any longer, though he did keep me reading threads I wasn't always interested in out of some morbid curiosity (ah, the duality of man).
