I'd like to add several Price horror titles to my collection, and so far have only decided on The Tingler (this movie scared the hell out of me as a kid). The others I am looking at are House of Wax, The Pit and the Pendulum, and House on Haunted Hill. Can I get some advice in which editions are best? Amazon must list 6 different versions of HOHH alone. TIA.

First two should only have one version, so you're all set.
HoHH is in the public domain, which is why there are so many editions. Which one to get is easy -- the one from Warner is by far the best. Great picture quality, proper aspect ratio, etc.
(If you don't already have it, I'd also recommend my favorite Price flick, The Last Man on Earth. This is also a PD title, but the one you'd want is on the MGM double-feature disc, along with Panic in Year Zero. The picture quality is fantastic.)

This doesn't answer your question, but the DVD of Laura has an A&E Biography documentary on him as an extra. It's very good and he was a pretty amazing guy - you may be interestd in checking that out.

Here's a release that has House on Haunted Hill and Last Man on Earth, and very affordable:
With that version being so affordable, I suggest you double dip on House on Haunted Hill and get the version that Legends Films just put out. It has the original B&W version, a colorized version, and a commentary track by Mike Nelson of Mystery Science Theater 3000.
Roan Group released The House on Haunted Hill, along with The Bat

A must have Vincent Price dvd is "The Fly/Return of the Fly" double feature from FOX. Anamorphic widescreen and new surround mixes for both. Plus, it's only $10.

I'm also a fan of The House of Usher, but my favorite Price movie is The Haunted Palace which is wonderful. I also liked The Masque of the Red Death.

image also makes a disc called heroes of horror that has a good doc about Price on it. It also has a trailer gallery and the half hour show/commercial he did for sears on fine art. Its a good start, and should give you a way to look into some more VP.
Get the Phibes double feature....good stuff.

Pick up all the MGM Midnight double features with Price while they're in print! They're decent quality, and so cheap you can't complain about it that much. There are tons of them with Vincent Price movies.

Pit and the Pendulum and House of Usher are great films
House on Haunted Hill is one of my favorites
Just picked up Song of Bernadette with a co-starring role from Price, but haven't watched it yet

How about a little love for:
The Raven (1963) with VP, Boris Karloff, Peter Lorre...and a young Jack Nicholson; and
Theater of Blood (1973) which, I remember reading somewhere, was VP's favorite film (though that may have been because he met his future wife, Coral Browne, while making it.)
Both titles are currently available on MGM's Midnite Movies Double Feature discs.

Just picked up "The Last Man On Earth" for less than $2 at Toys R Us. The picture and sound are great, especially considering the price! (and I'm a stickler for acceptable quality, LOL)

I'd second the comment about the MGM Midnite Movies. These titles have a nasty habit of going in and out of print. A lot of them went OOP last year despite only being on release for a year or so, but luckily they got re-released this year..so get 'em while you can. The single movies are now mostly OOP, but you can get the doubles easily enough. They're great quality and good value.
Now if they'd only release a double DVD with both of the Dr Goldfoot films!

I also recommend THEATRE OF BLOOD (it's part of an MGM Double Feature with MADHOUSE). I think one of the reasons it's his favorites (besides the fact that it introduced him to his third wife) is that he was supported by a great cast of british character actors. Legend has it that when they heard about the basic plot of the movie (actor seeks bloody revenge on critics who constantly pan his work) they were lining up to play the critics.
If you plan to venture into non-horror roles I highly recommend his comedic performance in CHAMPAGNE FOR CAESAR.

Thanks to all. I settled on The Bat/HOHH combo and The Fall of the House of Usher, all widescreen. BTW, already have Laura (GREAT movie), but the one I really want is His Kind of Woman. Excellent Mitchum / Russell vehicle, and Price is well, priceless in it. It is not available on DVD or tape, but ought to be.

The version of Last Man on Earth in your first link is painful to watch. I haven't picked up the MGM version, but it's got to be better.

Yes, the print on the Diamond double-feature disc is indeed painful to watch. Worse-than-VHS quality and pan-n-scan... ugh. I appreciated having that disc though because it was the only copy of the film available on DVD for quite a long time.
The $1 disc at Target (no longer available) and the $2 disc at Toys R Us are of exceptional quality... OAR and pristine. If the MGM disc is better than those, it won't be by much.

I have the Midnite Movie disc with Panic in Year Zero/The Last Man on Earth and the picture quality is excellent. I'd recommend that one.

For a "budget" range, the image quality of the films in the "Midnite Movie" range is superb.
I managed to pick most of mine up for about $5 each!
The MM edition of "Last Man" is the one you want.
Also, if you want House on Haunted Hill, you really should get the Warner edition which is way better than the shoddy public domain editions lurking around.

There was actually a Diamond re-release of LMOE that had a widescreen (non-16x9) print. That's the one I have (it's my entry in DVDAf btw :) ) and it's very painful.
I was going to get the MGM one, but it got cancelled and I forgot. I'll look for that when I get a chance.
