Plus, they absolutely rock!
Also, someone mentioned Echo & the Bunnymen - one of the coolest things about that name (if I remember correctly) is that Echo was the drum machine they used when they started, all the band members are Bunnymen.
I'll add:
Prick
Sisters of Mercy
Sigue Sigue Sputnik
A Tribe Called Quest
Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprasy
Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine
and even though the effect is lessened by how often you hear it, Nine Inch Nails still has a good sound to it and almost brings a feeling or imagery to mind before you even hear anything.

Didn't mean to touch a nerve, but I wouldn't say that I "know nothing about the band", and I have several of their CDs. I don't remember exactly when and where I heard the "joke", but it was years ago, and is fairly commonly known by music fans in my area at least.

Someone who knows German would be more able to help on this one, but from what I've heard its the initials of a German phrase that translates *roughly* to "no pity for the majority" or something like that.
Anyone know the real phrase/translation?

That wasn't directed at you, i was talking more about the people who i have ran into in my local area.
Usually some idiot will see one of my shirts and be "witty" and spout off the "depeche mode" bit. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the fact that on a few occasions said idiot never heard of the group and just heard the "kill mother fucking depeche mode" thing. But any type on incident like this happens maybe once a year if that.
But things were a complete 180 when i took a trip up to the Chicago area. Two people in the same mall *ON THE SAME DAY* liked my shirt and someone happened to be playing one of thier CD's in a shop. :)

A single.
Inbetween breaking up and reforming however some members (I use that term loosely for Mr. Tim Skold) went ahead and formed the group MDFMK as a "continuation" of KMFDM.
MDFMK tanked and KMFDM was reformed.
MDFMK i guess would be considered a "side project"now. Never liked the album much and i don't miss Tim Skold (i can't stand hearing his voice for too long).
