Whose the Most Successful UNATTRACTIVE movie star of the last 20 Years ?
You look at all the true A List actors, the actors who can pick and choose their roles, the actors who actually have real power in Hollywood, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts etc, they are all fairly to very attractive.
Unattractive actors can get work and some have their little niche roles but i can't think of one unattractive actor who truly had or has great power in Hollywood like Tom or Brad or Julia etc
Even taking someone like Danny Devito. He is known sure, but he never got to the level where you talked about a "Danny Devito movie".

I don't know if you would concider Kirsten Dunst as "powerful", but I just don't find her attractive at all...and her voice is kind of annoying.

Answering the original question, I would have to go with Tom Hanks. Not really "unattractive" per se, but he's just a regular-looking dude, yet still an A-list star.

While I don't think Julia Roberts is super attractive nowadays, when Pretty Woman came out she was pretty hot. So I think she was kind of "grandfathered in".
I think Groucho's reasoning for Tom Hanks makes sense. On a similar note, you could add Will Ferrell, Steve Martin, and other comedy headliners who aren't ugly, but just look like regular people.

There must be some good looking posters here to be saying all these paparazzi fodder are unattractive. Seriously, Julia Robert unattractive? Any guy here would freeze up like the Tin-Man if they tried to talk to her. I'll say Bill Murray has to be the most successful all-time unattractive movie star, but does he can pick up almost any woman because of his sense of humor, so is he really unattractive?
