Don't know if this has been discussed here before (although I suspect it might have been but I'm not sure what I'd search under to find it), but I have a recurring problem opening up certain types of DVDs. I have no problem with the plastic wrapping - but the stucker that usually comes on the top of the case? The one that usually has a "peel here" on one end? It is my constant enemy!! I try being as careful as I can to get it off, but I can tell you how many of my DVD cases are messed up from slightly to a lot b/c that @#$@#$ sticker won't come off the case smoothly! In particular, it tends to not want to unstick from the thin clear plastic that hugs the case into which the cover art is slid. I keep ending up with frayed edges or worse!

So am I the only one this happens to??? Is there some trick to getting that sticker off and not messing up the box? Help!

LMAO no you aren't the only one this happens to, unfortunately for whatever reason the feel like they need to waste material and put three of the POS stickers on the case and the almost never all three come off without a problem so what I do and I'm sure some other people here do this, i use an exacto Knife and slice the sticker along the seam where the case goes together then once I've opened the DVD case I peel all the stickers off. Maybe I'll take some pics to assure that you do it right; but this works the best for me.

My most recent trouble is the Cellophane sticking to the case wtf is up with this, I had never had one do this until like two months ago and now I constanly have cellophane stuck to the spines of my dvds and sometimes it won't come off. Has anyone else had this happening to them??

If you're talking about the price stickers that Best Buy and other retailers place on the slip cover, then Goo Gone is what you need. Walmart sells this for about $3. Just spray some of it over the price sticker and wait about an hour. Then when you start to peel the sticker, it comes right off and doesn't leave any glue. It always works for me.

That's how I open them up too, and yep I've had the Cellophane problem from time to time over the years.

I don't think I've ever seen a spray version of Goo Gone, but I've used the liquid with marginal results. The worst is the lingering smell, ugh.

I try to get most of the sticker peeled off then take a piece of clear packing tape and press it against the remaining debris then quickly tear it off, repeating until it all comes off.

Man do we lead boring lives talking about this stuff or what...

Goo Gone works best for removing sticky residue. You don't need to squirt it on and leave it for an hour, though. Just squirt some onto a cloth rag and rub at the sticky residue - it will come right off. You can buy Goo Gone at Wal-Mart, most hardware stores, and even a lot of drug and grocery stores. Btw, the citrus smell fades, but if it offends you too much you can always rub the case down with a moist cloth when you're all done.

As for the cellophane sticking to the spine problem, you can sometimes get it off using a damp wash cloth and a lot of rubbing (with plenty of friction). It won't work for the ones where the plastic on the case and the cellphane are literally melted together, however. In that case you're just SOL.
