I feel like the top 5 or so NFL players should be QBs, so with Rice retiring, let's see where he ranks among non-QBs. I feel like it's tough to make the argument for a WR, since you have to call plays designed for him, where dominant players at most other positions force the other teams to call plays designed aginst them. I'd take the DE, so I'll take Reggie White. Here's my 9, Deion missed the cut since he was a so so tackler.

Voted for Barry Sanders, just barely over Walter Payton. I like them both for the same reason. They WERE the offense on their respective teams, saw stacked defenses pretty much their whole careers, and still managed to put up amazing numbers. If Barry had stuck around for a few more years, he would have owned the RB record books. Certainly the best I've seen.

Well, as for numbers, if Jim Brown had kept playing rather than retire at the peak of his game, his numbers would be much higher too...
Rice is the greatest receiver of all time, of that there could be no legitimate argument. But I have a hard time saying any wide receiver is better than Sweetness or Jim Brown. And how do you compare a defensive player with an offensive one? Or a player as ferocious as LT, who may not have had Rice's work ethic or longevity but impacted the game of football in ways that Rice never did?

but he is only the 3rd or 4th greatest running back.. Its hard to even consider him for this list.

I do, more for all the 2 minute drills I watched as opposed to numbers. But I voted for Reggie White because he's the guy I'd want on my team, to not worry about DE or pressuring the QB for 15 years.

For my money, it's Anthony Munoz. Sure, Brown and Rice and Payton and all were great players... no question. But none of them defined their position the way Munoz defined Offensive Tackle. Nobody.

I'd say Brown defined the RB position better than anyone had before him.
Jim Brown, actually, probably holds the rare distinction of being the greatest player of all time in two different sports (he was arguably a better lacrosse player than he was a football player).
