It's about friggin' time. The SE for DPS has been out in R2-4 for years. Has a commentary and many other extras. Good stuff!

question: will the SE of Dead Poet's Society be the original theatrical 128 minute version or the expanded TV cut that reinstated 14 minutes (142min) - which was released on laserdisc as such?

Finally. I sold my copies of these two ages ago knowing that better editions have to come out. Now there is an end to the waiting in sight.

Possibly but doubtful. The other regions got some deleted scenes (which I believe are different from that cut, though I could be wrong) but not the expanded version.

Great news. The previous versions are some of the earliest dvd releases and are completely barebones and non-anamorphic. I just hope that Buena Vista continues this trend with the rest of their catalog.

...Especially "The Rocketeer" - I desperately want a better version of this! I love this film!

Don't be so quick to pat them on the back. These SE's (DPS definitely, not sure about GMV) have been available in other regions for years. Same thing happened with Ransom. They just got around to bothering to release them over here.
Rocketeer has no SE anywhere.

That was my question as well...

I'd like to think that the extended edition would be released, but based on Ransom (expanded LD, theatrical DVD), I'd guess that we're getting the 128-minute.

I totally forgot about the extended cut of Dead Poet's Society. I remember watching it on LD a while back. I'd love to see it again and sure hope it'll be on the DVD (but don't have my hopes up).

And remember, the second release of Ranson was still non-anamorphic, just a re-hash of the LD extended cut transfer! So, don't assume they will do these new SE versions right; wait for more detailed specs before celebrating!

Actually...there's a big difference. The NTSC masters for Ransom were all non-anamorphic if you look worldwide. Only the PAL releases were in 16x9. However, for DPS, I believe all the NTSC releases were 16x9. So I wouldn't worry at all on that front.

2 Great films!

Though, for me, they serve as a nice filfthy reminder of Robin Williams being snubbed out for a hugely deserved Best Actor Oscar nomination for "One Hour Photo". The academy nominates him for these two films, both are great performances, but Robin Williams work in "One Hour Photo" was so Oscar worthy, it makes me sick to even talk about it.

He also got nominated for the "Fisher King" and won SA for "Good Will Hunting".

Some will agree, some won't. But, Williams best performance as an actor yet was for me, "One Hour Photo".

No doubt, classic Williams, but I still think "One Hour Photo" is his best work as an actor, the deep emotional complexity of that character is incredible.

Huh. Exact same specs as the SE's that have been out in other regions for years. OH well. Guess I'll keep that version.

Oh, cool. I was an extra in Good Morning Vietnam. Between takes at the air force base, Robin Williams did a stand-up routine for all us extras dressed as soldiers. I hope that's what "Actor Improv" is.

Huh...there was a recent interview at IGN with Peter Weir in which he adamantly stated that he would never do a commentary...and now here's Dead Poets Society with a commentary. How odd. Has this commentary been available on the other-region version?
