NTSC/PAL Region 1 and 2

Hi there. I have a multi region US DVD player and i have a quantity of UK Region 2 DVDs. Does anyone know a way that i can play these films through a normal US NTSC TV. Everytime i put one in, the screen goes black and white and the screen doens't show all the picture. Does anyone know of a converter that i can get for this or something.

Any help or advice is appreciated.

AFAIK you are either going to have to find a multisystem TV to view the PAL discs, or buy a DVD player that does proper PAL to NTSC conversion. Two that are mentioned often here are the $60 Philips DVP-642 (which I have) and the $200 Oppo DV971H (which is apparently the best damn_dvd player for the money on planet Earth if you have a DVI or HDMI equipped TV).

There are converters. I think this is one. (quick Google search) They are often more expensive than a DVD player with a built-in converter. Which makes little sense. And may make you interested in simply getting a different player. Lots of threads on such players in this forum, and the International forum.

Hey James, I replied to your email, but I'll do so here as well. What brand and model TV and/or receiver do you have? Let me know and I'll recommend cabling options.

Have you tried going into the DVD player's menu and possibly changing the output signal to NTSC? Most times there is a choice between PAL, NTSC and AUTO. Click on NTSC since your TV is NTSC.
