I'm disapointed a bit by them.
I didn't think the extras for the first and third movies were great. I haven't seen the disks for the second movie.
I did like the editing feature for the first movie.
I really liked the original ending for Die Hard 3. Thought that was great.
All the rest of the extras weren't very penetrating or interesting.
Didn't need 2 disks. A lot of extraneous stuff.

technically, only the first one is a 5 star collection, the other two are only Special editions, I'm guessing they are all the 5 star color just so they match.

back when i started collecting DVDs, i was really glad when the whole trilogy got the 2 disc treatment and i really like the whole box that they came in.
if they were to be re-released, i wonder how else they could improve upon this?

I don't really have any major problems with them aside from the extremely crappy cases which are all wrinkled. As far as the movies my personal favorite is Die Hard 2, although I liked the first as well.

The Die Hard Ultimate Collection is great, I personally find nothing wrong with it (aside from the somewhat disappointing picture quality on Die Hard With A Vengeance). Sure it's no Alien Quadrilogy or LOTR EE, but the extras are for the most part fantastic and still hold up quite well.

You also need to keep it in perspective as to when they were released. Back then the 5 Star editions were considered very good SEs. Sure in recent years the studios have improved on SEs and A/V quality but then you're comparing apples and oranges.

Personally I thought the whole 'power shut-down' scene was kinda silly. It was SO short and added almost nothing to the film, that it definitely didn't merit having an alternate version of the film on the disc.

Die Hard 3 looks awful, and the lack of a retrospective documentary on the first Die Hard is a missed opportunity, but otherwise I've never had any regrets about getting the box set.
And yes, that original ending for Die Hard 3 was sweet. Why the hell didn't they keep that in the movie?

All things considered I'm happy with the Die Hard: Five Star, but it is sorely in need of a nice hour-long retrospective doc. Considering that it's easily one of the best action films ever made and a true modern classic, it could use a little something more to flesh it out. But taking into account how many other amazing movies don't even have any special features at all save perhaps a trailer or cast/crew filmography, I'd say it's really nothing to complain about. It's a big catalogue title for Fox, so I'm sure they'll upgrade it eventually. For now the Five Star will suffice nicely.

I liked the alternate ending because it was personal and one on one. Not about vehicles. One guy vs another guy. More about wits. Like the ending of the Die Hard Uno.
From what I understood about it...they didn't just shoot a different ending after having test the original ending. It seems like they shot it early in the shoot and just changed the plot significantly.

You obviously did not own the original DVD trilogy box set. Those were some of the worst DVD's ever, especially Die Hard with a Vengence. Among with other problems had the worst Layer switch in the history of DVD production. A long pause right in the middle of an action scene (Sorry I got rid of the set when the new box set came out so I forget which one).
