FAMILY TIES

The official line is that the Keaton's live in a never named suburb of Columbus, but in one episode, Alex says that he bought his clothes at a JC Penney's in Dayton.

I always thought it would be fun to start a TV "state" game to see if every state has been featured on a hit show.

I can already tell you that the answer would be "no", because of Delaware. Although depending on how you define "featured" and "hit", The Pretender could work.

For some reason I thought family ties was in toledo, ohio. I do remember an episode where they were going to go to Cleveland for an Indians game. Toledo is more of a Tigers city so maybe that doesn't fit. Columbus is reasonable.

Family Ties was indeed set in Columbus.

I'm pretty sure it's Brooklyn... I'm positive it's not Manhattan (which is New York, NY). Could be Queens, but I doubt it.

Are you sure? Surely in 60+ years of tv programming something took place in Delaware.

Nothing ever takes place in my home state. :(

I even remember that Growing Pains took place at 15 Robin Hood Lane (on Long Island) and that the High School for Head of the Class was Millard Filmore--with their rival being Bronx Science. this is all 15 years after the fact

But I thought Francis went to school in the south, Georgia or Alabama, and IIRC it was only a 6 hour drive to his school.

Didn't the Simpson's go to Delaware?
"I want to visit a screen door factory."

But it was also only a 6 hour drive to his ranch in New Mexico that he worked at.

From here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malcolm_in_The_Middle#The_setting

The setting of the show has never been revealed. The locale doesn't appear to have noticeable seasons, and also appears not to be in a desert environment, so one could conjecture the setting is somewhere in suburban California (the show is filmed in this state). Also, the schools the teens attend has the look and layout of a common California public school, with classes in many single story buildings, separated by open-air common areas, instead of a single multistory building.

"I want to visit a screen door factory."

Marge: I can't believe it! We won another contest!
Homer: The Simpsons are going to Delaware!
Lisa: I want to see Wilmington!*
Bart: I want to visit a screen door factory!

*This sentence has never been uttered by anyone sane.
