well iam surprised that no one paid attention to this...but if you listen to the Interview with Peter Weir in here:
here
he says Paramount approched him to do a special edition for all the 3 films he did for them...blah blah...but he says one special edition he did for Australia and 2 for america...
as you guys probably know...the special edition of Gallipoli is out in Australia according to:
dvdcompare
you think they are holding that for the 15th anniversery next year?

We talked extensively about that movie, too, although I didn't use any of it in my write-up. He has not been approached by Warner about doing a Mosquito Coast SE. In fact, he even misunderstood Paramount's intentions on the two new SEs (Witness and The Truman Show), thinking that Gallipoli also was going to be included and that Paramount was going to do a box of its Weir movies.[/

I first got the impression from Weir that he thought all three of his Paramount-associated films--Witness, The Truman Show and Gallipoli--were going to be redone as SEs in the United States. But when it actually came down to it, Paramount did only Witness and The Truman Show.
Looking over my transcript, he actually said: "I thought they were packaging the three together, so there would be three films, which all did well for Paramount; they were all successful financially. So, I thought they were bringing out a box. As it turns out, they're releasing just these two [Witness and The Truman Show] and then there's the other one [Gallipoli], so I don't know what that's all about."
So, from the tone of the comment, I didn't get the impression that Gallipoli is currently being worked on for release as an R1 SE by Paramount. But one could certainly interpret his comment as meaning the opposite, too. Unfortunately, interviews--especially ones done by phone with a time limit--don't always get all questions answered, and there are things that you dwell on and things you don't, for whatever reason. I didn't dwell on this by asking a follow-up question, because I still had many other ones to ask.
For what it's worth, I'm not sure the Australian two-disc SE is a strong indication that an R1 Gallipoli SE is coming. That R4 DVD was put out by Fox. Paramount has distribution rights to Gallipoli in the U.S., so it would have to put together its own SE for stateside release.

Um Animal,I'm sure Gallipoli would be available separately as well if a SE is released. So IF they did release a three movie Weir set and you already owned the other two. There would be no reason to get the set

From dvdanswers.com:
You can see the artwork at the following link:

Title: Gallipoli
Starring: Mel Gibson
Released: 13th December 2005
SRP: Around $19.99
Further Details
Paramount Home Entertainment has sent over artwork for a collector's edition of Gallipoli which stars Mel Gibson, Mark Lee, Bill Kerr, Harold Hopkins and Heath Harris. This Peter Weir film will be available to own from the 13th December this year, and should set you back somewhere in the region of around $19.99.
