I know I have a few others, but some movies that just seem to fester even when they're done...

"Cabin Fever"...it was just a movie that stayed with me and I had to see it again and get it on DVD. Weird because I know it isn't a good movie, but there was something about it.

"Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" was another.

Some movies stay in my head for awhile. Usually powerful films do or even movies that just have powerful scenes in them. As for movies that aren't that great, that I can't get out of my head and end up loving: Collateral. I always end up coming back to that movie in conversations or when I'm bored and want to watch a movie.

"Vertigo" always stays in my mind for a long time after each viewing. Monty Python's "The Meaning of Life" has several scenes that um... linger (Mr. Creosote.)

I probably won't ever forget "Osama," just because it's so powerful (and disturbing.)

"The big Lebowski" still lingers with me. I love that movie. I just saw a movie the other day that i know will linger with me too. call me cheesy or Sissy, but i loved "the notebook". Very good acting.

Blood Simple - I'll sit and think about who knew what when, were each prop shows up, ends up and it's significance for hours. A tightly directed film in which nearly nothing is wasted.

Can't Hardly Wait - I don't understand why this silly teen party movie holds my interest and causes me to dwell on it. Maybe the endless parade of cameos, maybe the Lauren Ambrose/Seth Green chemistry, maybe Jenna Elfman's angel scene. Who knows?

Lovely & Amazing - a film about a family, their insecurities and how they're lovely despite not being perfect. Catherine Keener's "36, but not thirty-six, 36" year old character is great as is Emily Mortimer in her very memorable nude scene.

Audition - Don't think I need to explain this one.

Braveheart stayed with me for a day or two after I first saw it.

The last 10 or 15 minutes of Requiem for a Dream stayed with me for quite a while as well.

Filmmaker

In recent history (movies I've seen for the first time over the past year or so), I'd say MEMENTO and BATMAN BEGINS, two movies that delivered FAR more than I'd anticipated.

Braveheart
the Shawshank Redemption

Both of those lingered as well. Braveheart becoming my favorite film of all time, seeing it a couple of times at the theater. Shawshank was just phenominal. One of only a handful of people that actually saw it in the theater, it was fun watching it sloooowly catch on and build momentum. I tried to get people to go and no one would listen.

And more recently, War of the Worlds. On my mind for a week since I wanted to see it again. Great stuff. Definite theater movie.

Another vote for Shawshank Redemption

But more recently Dogville. I caught a part of it on cable like at 3 in the morning and I couldn't shake it. Everytime it came on I watched it. I loved how conceptually different it was.

More than any other I'd have to say Unfaithful. I was filled with unhappiness, and left me feeling pretty hopeless. The one thing that brighted the mood of that film, for me (and this may sound sick, but you know) was when I don't plan on owning it or watching it again, but it was a very good, but grim, film. It just fucked with my head.

Irreversible - man I had that scene stuck in my head for weeks, I thought I was about to go insane, one of the only scenes I've ever watched that made me litterally sick to my stomach a couple others

why would you think he deserved it? he really wasn't a bad guy or think he was doing anything wrong. it should have been her he clonked, then maybe you could feel that way. i thought it was shocking in an unexpected/holy cow way, but i wouldn't at all say he "deserved" it and i am sure that isn't what the scene was meant for.

I think Memento and Shawshank Redemption are two great films that linger for a few days after watching them. Recently I think that Sin City has had the same effect on me.
