They probably havn't printed them up yet. The usual 4-6 weeks delivery time frame gives them plenty of time to see how many orders they get and then make a print run based on that.

There's been speculation that the UK box shown here will be the box we get - guess we'll wait and see. I don't mind so much what the front looks like as long as it's the same digipack case and the spine art is similar. I guess I'm expecting the spine to look like the half-assed slipcover we got with the homer head box - black with burns and wiggum. The one shown above looks like a gray color scheme though...

I like this part:
The Homer Head packaging will be restricted to just a run of 50,000 and for those who are not lucky enough to snap this up will of course be able to pick up Season 6 in its original packaging.

So the Homer head is only a limited edition package? Well, it still sucks balls. It may look cute, but is completely impractical. My wife and I pop in a Simpsons disc almost every night, and opening that thing up every time...I don't mind the inside package with the jewel cases, but it's too delicate, and hate all the stupid inserts everywhere, and that stupid clear plastic that wraps around the head. What a mess. I think I'll wait on the old-style box until I see it. So will be it be a gatefold pack like previous season sets, rendering every bit of the Homer head package, including the jewel cases, useless? Those of you who are getting the old-style box, what are you going to do with your Homer head package?
If the head is really a limited run, I just should have bloody waited. I now am officially against these gimmicks: Homer heads, tins, cases shaped like Mars, Books of the Dead...

So because FOX is requiring the POP from the DVD set, I have to choose between paying $2.95 for the alternate case or receiving my $10 rebate from ordering this from Coconuts. Im still leaning toward the case, but its just ridiculous that they need a POP in order to buy a stinking case...as if people are going to send off to buy a bunch of empty Simpsons DVD cases. For the box replacement, you only need to send one of the following three as your POP:
1) Your original receipt
2) The little insert that has the 1-800# listed on it
3) The POP from the back of the episode guide
So if the Coconuts rebate form only needs the receipt and/or the POP from the booklet, just send in the insert as your proof of purchase for the case.

Very. I was taking out disc three to listen to the commentaries and the third plastic flap snapped right off. Then I lightly pushed it back in to line up with the rest, and the one above it snapped off.
I called and they said they'll replace the Homer Head with a new one for free if I send the broken one back in. But they won't replace it with the Original box packaging. Still have to pay the Shipping and Handling for that one.
That's probably smart, since anyone could say they broke theirs to get a free one of the Original packaging. But it still pisses me off.

We should probably prepare ourselves for the fact that it might just be the outer box we're getting, something that would hold (loosely if it's the same box size) the current gatefold case. There was an alleged photo of the box at the nohomers site, but it's authenticity was somewhat questionable.
I guess I'll just be pleasantly surprised if we get the full digipack inner case.

simpsonscollectors.com has a pic of the box. It is just an outer box. You have to put the inside of the Homer head in it. It doesn't have a top on it and it is paper thin.
seymouru
09-24-05, 09:45 AM
There's no top. You just slide in the original package as is. The magnifying glass is transparent to show Homer's left eye from the original packaging after it's been inserted, so it ends up looking like the R2 box (http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/B000B90N0W.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg).
Just checked out the alternate box pics from link in the above post, and that absolutely blows. Old style packaging my @$$! Got mine today in the mail. They ship it flat in a sturdy envelope and you have to fold it. It's really not that bad, except it's not as wide as the others so on a shelf it is pushed in farther. There is a hole in the magnifying glass part of the cover so you can see the larger (magnified) Homer eyeballs on the package inside.

I firmly believe that the original intent by Fox was to provide us with a proper digipak type case that mirrored Seasons 1 through 5. Somewhere along the way, somebody must have figured out that it was going to cost them $4 instead of $2 to produce this; so some group of suits in a high level meeting probably concluded that "Since most of the public (our customers) are idiots with short memories, we'll just pull the old bait and switch and instead send them crappy boxes that only cost $1 to produce. This doubles the originally projected profits and we'll use the windfall for something more important than customer satisfaction such as a nicer Christmas party or a few more bonuses. Our customers will never see through this....." It was probably about that time that they modified the website to add the part about watching soon for a new link for those who were still not satisfied.

I just got mine too, like 10 minutes after I made my previous post. I'll admit, it's not as bad as it seemed, and does look like the others when put on the shelf. If it actually had a fold down top, it would be even better. How hard would that have been?
But the fact remains that we were led to beleive we were getting the SAME thing as the previous versions, when that wasn't the case. The exact words were "a very derivative, old style, nothing new, just like before box." So who wouldn't have expected a nice digipak? That's blatant false advertising if you ask me.
I just called the number provided earlier in this thread by Snowmaker.....
(310)369-3900, and was told to ask for someone named Laura Seagal (she was out for the day and will be in tomorrow). She'll either listen to complaints or send you to the right department. So anyone who wants to make their opinion known, just give that number a call.

How is this false advertising... it says you'll get a box and you got a box. It doesn't say anything about the inside packaging.
It's simple: saying something is exactly the same as it was before and then sending something different is false advertising. And since it says everything is the same, it is IMPLIED that the inside packaging would be the same also.
Trust me... it says "box" instead of "packaging" for a reason..
In hindsight, it is now easy to see why their site was so vague and contained no pictures...it was so they could send this us this box and then say, "well, we NEVER said it was going to be a digipak." Which is true, so shame us on us for beleiving what they "seemed" to be saying. It's safe to say pretty much everyone thought they were getting a digipak. Why expect anything else when their site says it was "old style, nothing new, just like before". As I mentioned before, the box is definitely very nice for what it is, but that does not excuse intentionally misleading the customer. I wouldn't have bought this if I'd know what it was. Granted, it was only $3.00, but I can print better covers at home, and will be shortly, most likely.

So what is really the point of this thing? Just to make it look uniform sitting on a shelf next to the others? It simply covers the head? Sorry, but that's lame. I can understand wanting to make the sets look uniform, but I WATCH my Simpsons DVD frequently; I hate the head because it's an ass-pain to keep opening the damn thing up, it's flimsy, cheap quality packaging. I think that's why most of here were expecting/hoping for the old-style box, which SEEMED to be what they said we would get.

It's simple: saying something is exactly the same as it was before and then sending something different is false advertising. And since it says everything is the same, it is IMPLIED that the inside packaging would be the same also.
Implied, or IMPLODE?

Got mine, and although it's not exactly the same as the old packaging, that's fine. I don't care if it's exactly the same at all. And the jewel case packaging was kinda neat with the homer head so, I'm not bothered. I say this looks nice on the shelf, it'll do.

I thought I would hate it, but I actually don't mind. It'd be nice to have some other kind of opening than an open top, but I do feel like it's easier to access the discs than with a digipak. Also, when I first got it, the top of homer's head stuck out. I noticed that the disc holder wasn't properly aligned with the cardboard. (The disc holder was slightly hanging down from the cardboard.) So, after peeling away the disc case and reattaching it, it fits in there great.

I tossed my Homer head into a closet. The only thing I really don't like about the replacement is that it's short! That is, width-wise, it is shorter than the digipaks so it's not flush. A little anal, I know, but...
Just looking at it on my shelf, it's not flush with the rest of the Simpsons sets, but it IS with my Smallville sets. Go figure...

I got mine today.. Maybe I'm stupid, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to fold this stupid thing. According to the directions, it says to open the sleeve, then fold in the inner flap (which is the perforated one), then fold in the tabs and tuck in the other flap, but there's nowhere to tuck it in to.
If anyone can explain it better, I would appreciate it.. Thanks.
dick_grayson
10-03-05, 04:20 PM
tuck it into itself (at the bottom). you push the smaller tab along the inner wide wall and then the longer tab that extends from it goes out at a right angle. then fold in the other bottom part envelope thing and you're good to go. unfortunately, I can't really explain it too well. All I know is that one of the tabs goes in against the inner wall and it's ending perforated tabgoes perpendicular to the other side (creating a bottom about 1/2" from the real bottom (for the dvds to sit on).

I still haven't figured out how to correctly put this together..
If I fold in the perforated flap according to the directions, it sticks out away from the bottom of the case about 1/2" or so, and therefore the wing-flaps won't fold around it and so forth.
If I just fold in the wing-flaps and the "outer" flap with the print on it, everything is fine, and the inner Homer-head case fits snugly inside and everything looks right, except that perforated flap is now just dangling. I'm tempted to just cut it off, but want to see if anyone else can help me get past my stupidity first. :)

Thanks for the pic. I did that, and it works, but now the Homer-head sticks out about 1/4" or so out of the top. Is this the correct way? When I did it my ass-backwards way, the head fit snugly inside and I just had to tip the case upside-down to get it out.

Check the packaging that you're putting in the box. Are the four plastic disc holders hanging out of the cardboard covering at all (at the bottom)? I realized that this was the problem in my case, so I ripped the 4 disc holders off the cardboard covering, reapplied them so they were perfectly squared with the cardboard, and now it fits great. Maybe a manufacturing problem?

This entire situation is reprehensible! Did anyone (ANYONE!) complain about the packaging for Simpson seasons 1-5? I don’t think so. This is clearly a case of lowering the quality of the packaging in order to lower costs and increase profits. If they wanted to make an extra buck, why not just simply increase the MSRP?
So does the new standard become consumers buying the discs and the packaging in two separate transactions? Ridiculous!
And I don’t buy the argument that this is a “free” replacement box. Trust me: there is profit calculated into that handling fee. If they really wanted to distribute "free" replacement boxes, then ship 100 flat replacement boxes to every Circuit City and Best Buy in the country. Then require consumers to exchange the cheap, flimsy, plastic heads for a replacement box. That’s a FREE replacement.
I want a matching digipak! --- To change packaging midway in a series release is inane.

I question just how much cheaper it is to make these plastic heads and stuff than just an ordinary digipak. I don't think that's the reason that they made the change. I've learned to live with it, and I enjoy the alternate packaging. Come on, there's gonna be like 20 seasons of The Simpsons. Do we really want every single season to have practically the exact same cover with the TV cutout and everything? Consistency is nice and all, but change can also be good to liven things up a bit. Anyway, that's just my opinion...

Anyone still waiting on their case? I sent my check in the Friday after this set came out and I still don't have it. My check was cashed on September 9th. That's 2 months.
My friend waited like a month and sent his in and had it back within 2 weeks. This is ridiculous.
Is there a number I can call? I tried the one that was on the insert but all I got was a recording of Homer. I think I may be able to call back during business hours and talk to someone. I'm guessing that they would be on west coast time and I'm east coast time so I'll have to wait until later in the day.
EDIT: I called the 800 number and was told that I would have to fax them proof of the cashed check and they would send out another one. This always happens to me. I think it may be easier just to send another check with the proof of purchase from the set. I doubt I have the receipt anymore so that won't work. :hairpull:

I have an extra 3 disc case like the one Back to the Future trilogy comes in. When my replacement box comes (assuming it fits, it seems like the right size) I am going to use an add-a-page to give room for the 4th disc, stick the episode booklet behind that disc, put the inside package (minus the trays, of course) in the plastic as the cover and put the case into the new box. That should work: right?

No. because there is a built-in spacer inside the box, since the inner thing with the 4 disk flaps isn't as wide.
also, the BTTF-type case is wider than the Simpsons box. I just held them to each other.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll work on reinforcing the inside now instead of planning on tha... well... plan. My problem with the inside isn't with the taped trays, but with the fact that the "glue" is not holding the trays to the flap, it's just falls off after a few days. Some heavy duty adheisive spray should do the trick, I'll worry about the trays falling apart when... and if... it comes to it.
Looks like we'll get a choice of packaging up front this time.
Check out buy.com for Season 7. The Marge head is different than what tvshowsondvd shows.
http://www.buy.com/prod/The_Simpsons_Complete_Seventh_Season/q/loc/12933/202025992.html
Also, check out this link. Buy.com also shows what the other new Marge packaging looks like. To me, it looks the same as the replacement for the Homer head. Look down at the peep hole for the camera. It's Marge's eyes from the plastic case. Looks like Fox is doing the same thing to Marge's box that they did to Homer's box. Pull the insides out of the plastic Homer head and place it inside the new box Fox mailed you. But now you get a choice of the outter case.

I haven't got my replacement box yet, but I have to say that the head is good for shipping and moving. That replacement box looks flimsy. The digipak is very delicate, and the plastic head protects it very nicely. I've just moved back stateside from Eurupe, and I stuck the set in a checked suitcase and it was fine. The same, I'm sure, could not be said if it had been in the replacement box.
That being said, the head is impractical for day-to-day use.

- Original sales receipt
or
- The 800# insert you found in the box
or
- The original proof of purchase on the back of the episode guide booklet
And I have the 800# insert and the proof of purchase.
If you'd like one let me know - but I may want help getting replacement box ordered for myself in the UK!!!

I just reeread this whole thread and I was curious, because now that I've finally caught up in my Simpsons sets, to where I'm finally ready to buy season 6.
So I was wondering if any Canadians out there had taken advantage of this deal, and if so, did you get a bilingual version of the cover or anything stupid like that? I know The Simpsons season 5 and 7 sets (I imagine 8 will be the same when it comes out) were good about having only a bilingual slipcase that you could just throw away with the proper box underneath.
Yes, I know I'm being extremely anal about this, but hey, that was one of the selections on the box replacement website after all. ;)

Bumping a really old thread in hopes that there's still a way to get a replacement box. Really late to the party on this one...

I can give you the phone number for the replacement program.. I have it in my original set at home. I think it's still active.

Thanks, I tried the number that was in my box (1-800-223-2369) but it appears to be disconnected. And the alternative, "simpsonsbox.com" makes no mention of replacements and seems to now be run by someone other than Fox.

i would assume that since you can now purchase the standard box in stores, they aren't offering replacements to those who purchased the head version previously...
