Please recommend adult GBA games to last me four months in Iraq
Not "adult" as in explicit, but "adult" as in "not kiddie"
I'm deploying in a few weeks and am planning to (ahem) borrow my boy's SP. I've done a bit of research, and have a few games, but am looking for recommendations for hidden gems and such.
So far, I plan to take
Advance Wars 1 & 2
Metroid Fusion and Zero Mission
SMBA: 1, 2, 3 etc.
Tactics Ogre
FF Tactics Advance
Namco and Konami Classics
I also am planning to pick up the new combo of Texas Hold Em and Golden Nugget, in spite of mediocre reviews, just to pass the time.
FWIW, I'm lukewarm about traditional RPGs, but do enjoy strategy based ones. I also like action games, classic arcade, and puzzle games (which I'm lacking), and shooters (though I don't think they translate well to the small screen).

Warioware, and especially Warioware:Twisted. Both very addictive, and fun to pass the time with.

FF:TA will last you a long time. I played it for 79 hours before I decided I did all I wanted with it. Tactics Ogre is another excelent game. You should enjoy both of them. If you want another strategy game, check out either of the Fire Emblem games. Also, both Zelda games should be added to your list.

Zelda: forgot that I have and planned to bring Minish Cap and the two GBC Oracle games.
Fire Emblem: Thanks for the tip
Warioware: I checked it out on the demo at Best Buy at some point and didn't really know what to make of it. I didn't have the impression that it was for me, but that was a very limited experience.
FFTA: I've played around with it a bit and wasn't feeling the interface, but I'll certainly give it some more time.
Anybody have or have played Ultimate Brain Games or Ultimate Card Games?

can anybody who's played both give me a hint about which "hold 'em" game is best on GBA?
the reviews on Amazon are pretty marginal for both, but I'd certainly like to make sure I get the better of the two.

If you like Metroids, you'll probably like any of the three Castlevania GBA games. I like Circle of the Moon best, but many people like Aria of Sorrow best.

I liked Mario vs. Donkey Kong, it will take you some time if you try to get all the presents on every level. You can never go wrong with Bomberman either (in my opinion).

Warioware has a lot of replay value. You may not want to play for hours at a time (although then again, maybe you will) but it's a game you can easy pick up and play for a few minutes everyday even after you've unlocked everything.

If you like playing cards, ULTIMATE CARD GAMES will NOT disappoint, its a ton of fun.
Also, if you like MONOPOLY, the GBA version is alot of fun as well.

Final Fantasy Origins could be a good one. I know you said you don't really like them but maybe this would be a chance to try them out. I went through the first one and it took quite a bit of time so with two of them it should provide a lot of time to kill.
Also I don't know if you have a digicam or not but there is a game boy movie player available. It takes compact flash cards and you could use it to put some pictures of your loved ones on it. Plus it accepts nes roms You can get them on ebay, here is the website.

I may give Ultimate Card Games a chance as well.
I'm guessing that I probably have more than enough to last me for the deployment already, but wanted to make sure I had some variety.
Appreciate all the recommendations and the well wishes.

I do own one. You can get them for about $20-25 on ebay. The pictures have to be in bitmap format which is easy enough to convert. It comes with all the software needed. They also support it through firmware upgrades via their website. After you format the CF card it is only a matter of using your own reader to drag and drop the converted files into the card. I think it works great. Of course the quality of the video depends on the conversion compression but is good for short clips. You can fit an entire movie on a very large card though.
There are a bunch of .nes files that take up hardly any room on the card available. Only thing is the GBA onboard mem is limited so you cannot load a rom with more than, I think 200k. As for the roms as per forum rules you will have to find them yourself. As an example of how cool it is, even though I already own Jackal and Contra it is still cool playing two player on the GBA with a link cable. Did I say too much?
