Well, Costco has the 27" LCD TV (X27SV-Naga III) for $700. it'd be mainly used for TV and DVDs, so i'm not too concerned about the VGA/DVI input quality. is this a decent model?

As I always say w/ Costco, even if the product sucks, their return policy is the best in the business. It's pretty much low risk if you buy it and don't like it.

Yeah, I would definitely check it out. That's a good price for a LCD with a built in HDTV tuner. If it sucks, take it back.

It's got a DVI port, so you can get an upconverting DVD player for it. I don't know if you do much with regionless players or non R1 DVDs, but the monitor also does native PAL/SECAM, which is a cherry on the top. If you are into the regionless bit, I'd suggest getting an Oppo DVI player for it. It would be a nice little setup, assuming the TV is decent.

The only thing about the stats that makes me scratch my head is that it weighs 45lbs. If you look at other 27" LCD's, they weigh almost half that.

That's probably with the stand, or possibly even shipping weight with the box. Unless it is shipping weight, it does seem heavy. I'd be interested to hear educated opinions on this, too.

Uneducated:

Most of the etail sites list shipping weight, and for a 27" they seem to vary between 24-30lbs. My 21" weighs 17lbs. The stands on these smaller LCD TVs aren't heavy, they're mainly thick plastic with a steel or aluminum rod; they can't weigh more than a pound. Maybe this one's different though? Maybe it's got a weighted bottom for stability?

Maybe it's filled with Leprechaun's gold!

Maybe it's just a typo or wrong info.
