Good DVD Shelving/Racks for my collection?

I'm getting ready to move out of my mom's house and into my first apartment. I was displaying/storing my DVD collection on a set of built-in shelves in my bedroom, but obviously I can't take those with me. I am looking for some quality shelving that would also be a nice way to show off my collection. I don't want to spend TOO much money, but I don't want something that looks and feels cheap. My collection is still quite small (compared to the collections of others on this board), but it is growing quickly (I had 10 DVDs in November). I would like something that could accommodate this growth. I would prefer something that I could go to a store and pick up as opposed to something I would have to order online. I am in Pittsburgh if this helps. My collection can be seen here:

Thanks for the help,
Amy

If you have an IKEA store near, they have great bookshelves for pretty cheap.

Bestbuy has a ton! I got one of the nicest shelves I had seen in forever... It hold everything! Everything is adjustable, it hold up to 360 DVDs, 680 CDs, and a lot of VHS... It came with so many shelves, I did not even use like 9 of them! The price is 69.99... If this is a lot to you, think of it as holding everything from books, to toys, to ???... Everything fits! Otherwise they have a lot of other nice ones too. If you have a friend who works their, get them to buy it for you! Trust me, you save over 50%...

Also check Target, look in both the electronics section with racks and the furniture section.

sorry to hijack the thread, but does anyone know where I can get the 270 DVD shelf they sell at Suncoast. I think Sauder makes it. I am looking for a DVD shelving unit that isn't really tall, the one at suncoast is maybe 3-4 feet high but it holds 270. an Ikea is close by, does anyone know if they sell stuff like that?

it looks like that. wondering if Ikea has stuff thats a similar style.

thanks

Check out Identify's post in the "Post your collection Part 7" thread. Looks like they hold a ton, but you have to buy 2 extra shelves to get the max use out of them.

Ikea just HAD to open a shop near Dallas.

I just did a quick count, and it looks like about 400 (50 per shelf) with the addition of two extra shelves. It's been a while since I bought it, but I believe the shelves are $10 each. Or, you can go the route I did, and replace all of the wood shelves with glass for only $5 each - I like the look of the glass shelves myself.

I have a pic of mine, but my web host is down right now. I'll post it when it's back up.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I think I'm going to check out Ikea within the next few days. The bookcases are a good idea because until my collection gets bigger, I can actually it for books hehe

Thanks,
Amy

My local Target sells something very similar. I don't know if it's the type of thing that every Target carries or not though.

Here are all kinds of Billy options: http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/store...14&cattype=sub

There are lots of options for sizes, colors, etc. I really like the quality of the bookcase as well. I also prefer the look with the glass shelves - it doesn't seem quite so 'bulky' as it does with the standard wooden shelves.

check out the 756 cd oskar. not sure where to find it at a store but if your willing to wait a little while, you'd be able to order one through DDD and you'd save 20% and get free shipping (if they do shelving again during the next 20% off sale). I have the 1080 cd Oskar and its able to hold the majority of my collection and its pretty sturdy.

Kocheese, that Oskar looks cool... how does it look up close? Basically my concern is if it is laminate/particle board, if it has the cheap look that's often associated with that...

Do you know of any B&M stores where I could see one? The DDD price is great...

Anybody have any experience with these?

http://www.ifurn.com/atlanticmedia_ampen.html

I like the look of them but I'm worried that they are cheaply constructed. I have some Atlantic cd towers that are decently beefy and look nice.

About 50 per shelf, which comes up to about 400 with the purchase of two extra shelves.

I recommend using some "oak" bookshelves with extra shelves (the kind which are about 7 feet tall, four feet wide and 12 inches deep and made of real oak veneer on some sort of particle board). You can get them at any oak furniture store. They're durable, and the shelves don't bow or bevel when under the weight of all that plastic.

I am seriously interested in purchasing one of those spinner racks (especially the kind that holds over 1000 CDs or about 500 DVDs). However, since the largest one is about 2' x 2' x 5', I worry whether it look too bulky in a room. Anyone own one of these?

About three years ago I broke down and went with two Can-Am cabinets (one three-drawer and one two-drawer). Each drawer holds 270 CD's or 120 DVD's. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Every penny. Since I buy/sell DVD's and CD's alot, I still haven't had the need to buy an additional cabinet.
