DVD Talk review of 'Cypher'

I read Scott Weinberg's DVD review of Cypher at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=17000 and...

I was not as "wowed" by CUBE as many folks were, but I certainly admired the style in which the film was made. IMO, CYPHER is a far superior film, and beautifully shot. I can't imagine that CYPHER had a huge budget, but Natali makes the most of his resources in terms of sets and special effects.

I want to rent the US Region 1 version of CYPHER for sake of comparison, but I've already rented the UK version via Nicheflix. If you have a multi-region capable player, you might want to consider renting/purchasing the UK version, since it comes in a 2-disc special edition with the second disc packed with supplements.

CUBE had some great possibilites, but ultimately was flawed (especially the actors!)...

CYPHER is one of those gems that slip through the corporate juggernaughts... Seriously, this film is about 85% better than most of the trash that's at your local cineplex. I actually did a review for the Japanese R2 DVD awhile back. Check it out:

Another reason to go region-free. The Region2 dvd is loaded and has a great dvd case.

I picked up the R2 UK dvd (2 disc SE) a few months ago after reading a review by my buddy Serdar. Awesome stuff, and while it was unfortunately never released in the theaters domestically, I'm pretty sure (via IMDB) that a number of other places got it large screen.

Really kinda mind blowing. I had a small hunch about a few of the twists before getting there, but I was on my toes the whole time. Highly recommended: 8.5/10

Cypher is a great film but I've always preferred Cube.
