PC Resident Evil - No Ink Ribbons?
I only play PC games, and have never played Resident Evil before last weekend. I actually was able to buy a brand new, retail-sealed copy for the PC. I was never interested in it before, due to some things I had heard that made me reluctant to try it - primarily the save game system where you need ink ribbons and a typewriter. (I've heard you become more afraid of running out of ink ribbons rather than ammo, so the game should've been retitled "Ribbon Evil.")
Anyways, I'm at least halfway through the game and I'm really starting to wonder about this save game system. I have not seen a single ink ribbon, nor am I ever asked to provide one when I use the typewriter. I've got somewhere around 33 saves now on the typewriter, and it seems like my saving capability is unlimited.
I thought ink ribbons were used in RE 1-3 for all platforms. I'm thinking either one of two things has happened:
First, I've somehow inadvertently activated a cheat code that allows unlimited saves on the typewriter. When I started the game (playing as Jill), I had to do a bunch of weird maneuvering to avoid one of the first cutscenes, or else my game would freeze up. I'm wondering if that has something to do with it.
Or second, I've stumbled across a very collectible version of the game that needs to be sold on Ebay with the title: "RARE RESIDENT EVIL GAME! TAKE A L@@K!!!"
So I'm curious - has anyone else ever encountered this with the PC version?
