If ever there was a seminal TV series form the early days of horror television it was "Boris Karloff's Thriller", and yet, year after year the series languishes on the shelves at Universal without the kind of release to DVD it deserves.

Just sent my email -- Gawd, I loved that show. I only have two episodes taped off the air -- Pigeons From Hell and The Hungry Glass -- but they're my two favorites.

Its criminal that its M.I.A. from legit DVD. The show laid the groundwork for so much later television. Not to mention, Boris Karloff's name and visage is on it. Doesn't Boris count for anything to these guys?

First Universal announces they're putting out the 8 Hammer films they were holding, then they announce the old Alfred Hitchcock series on DVD, then they announce the original Kolchak seried on DVD, then yesterday the word out is Universal is set to release the 2 Godzilla movies they've been holding back on: King Kong vs. Godzilla and King Kong Escapes. Preliminary reports have this being a 2-DVD set with both films in widesreen.
Seems like Universal has some person or persons who are reviewing their older catalog for unexploited opportunities. I hope they give THRILLER a good look!
I'll be e-mailing them again today to remind them about Thriller.

I dvd-red them off Scream and they look as good if not better than most of the Universal classic dvd releases. Might be expensive if they do release it with 67 episodes oner 2 seasons.

We may not get anything with just Karloff in it from Universal. I have read in many things that Karloff's estate holds the rights to his name and image, and they ask an arm and a leg to license it. This is why the recent Lugosi set from Universal was not sold as a Lugosi/Karloff set, which it really is. I know there are ways around it, like MGM uses their original poster art which they own the rights to, which has Karloff's name and image in artwork (not photo,) but I think Universal and his estate have butted heads so many times that they may not feel it's even worth it to consider.

Universal did release 6 episodes on vhs and laserdisc. As long as they use photos from the show on the cover(and menu) there is no rights issue. Sara Karloff is pretty good about licensing. There seems to be less licensing of Lugosi than either of the other two(Chaney being third). Unless I'm mistaken, Bela Lugosi Jr.(who is a lawyer) started the actors owning the rights to their image over the box art of the Aurora Dracula model kit back in the early sixties.
