looking for good headphones between the price range of max $75. wanted the bose quiet comfort headphones but too expensive. want something not very bulky. for instance something that looks similar to these sony headphones.

the reviews thought don't look very good for these headphones. any ideas? Thanks!

Bose headphones are crap. Overbloated and unnatural bass, overpriced, unbalanced, poor construction, etc. Consider yourself lucky you didn't snatch them up. I'm guessing you just want a home headphone. With a max of $75, the best sounding headphone is generally agreed upon to be the Grado SR-60. They aren't bulky and they seem comfortable to me. A lot of people think they're really ugly though. They're kind of difficult to find however, so you might have to check with smaller hi-fi stores or shop online. If you want something else that sounds great and looks more contemporary, go with the Sennheiser HD-497.

I know that another forum or web search would maybe better find an answer, but does anyone here have an opinion on whether there are any good, affordable wireless headphones?

BOSE speakers/headphones are the best i've ever heard. I visited a display of the TriPort headphones in a store once and was blown away with the quality and appearance of the product. I buy nothing but BOSE :)

As a sound industry professional, I have to agree with most of this. However, as good as the Grados are you have to consider that they are "open air" headphones, so you will still hear everyone around you and they will hear you. So it really depends on what your listening environment is going to be. They are great for critical listening though and incredibly well constructed.

For everyday use I would have to recommend the industry standard Sony MDR 7506. They run about $100 and are probably some of the best sounding headphones in it's price range. Check out the amazon reviews.... I agree with most of them. MDR 7506

That being said, I personally use the the MDR-V6 (not to be confused with the MDR-V600 garbage). The V6 is constructed exactly like the 7506, but has a different voice coil giving it a little bit warmer sound translating to a less synthethic sound. These are a bit harder to find, but are well worth the $80-100 price range. Fry's carries these regularly and it appears Amazon has them now and again as well. Sony MDR V6

thanks guys for those ideas! do you know what stores though carry those two diff. sony headphones? I really want to try them on first before buying them. im sure the grado headphones are good but they are ugly as hell, and im really not an audiophile. the sony ones though look nice. hopefully though when i try them on they don't look like those ear muffler things you wear in the winter :) i have a pair of headphones but they look like they could cover two of my ears. im looking for compactness cuz i use them when at school, on the bus etc.

Yep, those Grado's aren't very hip :rolleyes:Bigbully said Fry's carries those Sony's, but those stores are only found on the West coast. In terms of big electronic chain stores, Circuitcity and Bestbuy might carry them, but given the ones in my area that I visit, I doubt it. Magnolia Hi-Fi (Bestbuy's high end division) are more likely to carry them. You can also try calling local hi-fi stores if they have them. Good luck!

is there anywhere that i can go to try on the grado's? i do have a fryes here in WA, so i will go there and see what they have. will go to magnolia hi fi as well, maybe good guys too. ususally though these places have very limited headphone supplies, and most of the time you can't try them on because they are packaged.

I usually order my headphones, so I'm not sure where you might be able to try them out. I would think that Circuit City or Best Buy would have the Sony MDR 7506, but as I said above, the V6's will be harder to find. However, if you can find one then you will know how they both fit, because they are the same build. These headphones will cover your ears. If you are looking for something compact then you are probably better off going with the smaller models similar to the one you linked in your first post. You won't get as much bass response, though.

I wear my V6 when I travel on planes, etc. without any embarrasment. They aren't behemoths like one of the kids in E.T. has on. :)

Respectfully, its people like you Bose counts on to make their fortunes.

Contact Bose CS and ask them for the frequency ranges of their speakers/phones, etc. Their answer should tell you a lot about the company.

(They will tell you its up to the individuals' ear. Pure crap! They won't give them to you because it would tell you they miss a wide range of frequencies.)

I personally use a pair of $60 Sennheiser HD212 Pro's (though I got them for about $37 :D). They do the job for me, sounding and feeling good. There are probably better buys or better sounding ones for the money, however. One thing to do though is definitely shop around. Stores like BB or CC will always have everything at full retail, but online stores have far better prices. CompUPlus is really nice as far as prices go, but their shipping options leave a lot to be desired ($15 2-day express is their cheapest option). Check cnet.com's digital music section for headphone reviews and their price search is pretty handy for finding the best price, though many times you'll have to visit the site and add the item in your cart for the actual price.

As far as the BOSE arguement goes, I've always heard it was an acronym for "Buy Other Stereo Equipment."
