GTA:San Andreas PC tech question?....

I just purchased GTA:SA for the PC. It installed fine and when I went to play it. I got the following error message...."Unable to authenticate original disc within time limit."
I purchased this from Amazon marketplace. Does anyone know what this is? And can it be fixed?

Thanks!

Have you tried an emulated drive with Alcohol 120?

Just a guess here but maybe your DVD drive isn't spinning up to speed when the game is looking for the disk, you could try exploring the game DVD just before you start the game to get it spinning and see if that helps.

I know the game needs an 8x DVD drive. I am not sure mine is. I was wondering if that is the prob.

Thanks!

ps-how can you check the speed of a drive?

I would go to gamecopyworld.com and download a no-CD crack. You just have to replace one file and then it doesn't check for the disc any more. I do that for every game that I install, because I don't like the hassle of putting in a CD for the game when it's already fully installed on my computer.

With the previous GTA games, it actually made the game run faster because it had been pausing during play to spin up the drive and check for the disc.
