Thanks for the early prices. Calling DDD tomorrow morning and if Ghostbusters hasn't shipped yet I'm cancelling it. With tax it's about the same at CC & I won't have to wait for the medial mail which usually results in getting my dvds close to a week after street date.

critterdvd
07-27-05, 08:08 PM
whats the differance between the Alexanders
The reason that their are going to be two different "Alexanders" is becaue the director said the reason the movie didn't do so well in the theaters was because of the homosexual tendencies and the amount of character devolpement. So he went back and took about roughly 15 minutes of character development and the ("love" story between Collin Farel & Jared Leto), and put back in 8 minutes of action sequences...
The Theatrical Cut seems to be the definitive version...

If it only cost $1.00, it'd be $5.00 more than the movie's worth.
No amount of editing could save that film. And I'm definitely an Oliver Stone fan -- I've seen 'Heaven and Earth' more than once.
I don't consider this a threadcrap, since it's bargain discussion not film discussion; I consider it a warning.

I couldn't find any advanced reviews or detailed info on the Ghostbusters set on the Internet. At Amazon there were a couple reviews that made it sound like the new release improves the picture quality because of a new anamorphic transfer and also adds some Real Ghostbusters cartoons and a scrap book, but then drops the audio commentary and trailers. Otherwise, it sounds the same.
Could anyone post more details so I'll know if it's worth upgrading my old ones? For me it sounds like the picture quality improvement would be the only reason, and I don't remember the non-anamorphic picture quality of the old releases being that bad.

The first Ghostbusters movie is anamorphic (I think the second one is as well). That is the only one I have as the second one doesn't interest me. If the great MST3K style commentary is gone there is definitely no reason to get the new version for me even if the transfer is a bit better.

I wasn't going to upgrade my Ghostbusters discs but improved transfers at that price sounds like it's worth it. I'm definately getting a 2-disc Alexander but I'm not quite sure which version yet (though leaning towards the theaterical since I enjoyed it and I'm hearing bad things about the new cut).

DVDTalk has a review of the DC of Alexander, and the reviewer had seen the theatrical cut before (he recommended the TC over the DC).

I don't think the BB ad has been posted yet, which is kind of odd.
Edit: BB ad has been posted at bestbuy.com. I'm looking through now, and will update in a moment.
BB PS2 highlights:
None, really. 2 for $35 GH, PH, and Player's Choice games, but if you know your way around BB, you can pretty much beat that any day of the week. It certainly doesn't compare to the 2 for $22 GH (for RZ members) that they ran recently. If you use one of the $5 no minimum PS2 coupons, you can get either The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie (PS2), or The Incredibles (PS2) for $12.99, as they are on sale for $17.99 each in the ad. Sorry I didn't have something better for you.

I would've gotten The Cosby Show Season 1 for $27.99 this week, and I had planned to do that until I found a review saying that these are the syndicated (cut) episodes. So I'll be buying nothing this week unless I decide to upgrade my Ghostbusters.
This just points out how important advance DVD reviews are, and it's also why I'm often disappointed when new releases come out and even a week later there are no DVD reviews to be found. Case in point: try finding a review for The Jerk 26th Anniversary edition. There's zip zero nada on the new version at DVD Basen.
How many reviews can be found for the new Ghostbusters set? Another big zip zero nada at DVD Basen, except for the 1 thread referenced in this thread.

I read the OP wrong, and I thought the Alexander theatrical cut was 7.49 at CC, I went there and asked where the 7.49 Alexander was, she pointed toward the DC. I said no, the original one, she said in the 7.49 bin. That one was Alexander the great. SO then i went to BB, at this point I was still confused. I tried to price match. We looked a the add, and it wasn't in there. The guy called CC and the girl there said the DC was 14.99, he said no the theatrical version, the girl said it was 7.49. I left happy, then i came home and looked on here to see if i had read it wrong. i did, but I still got alexander for 7.49. so that was cool, unless it really is as bad as everyone says...

Was surprised to see that the price for DOWNFALL at my local Best Buy was $15.99, $1 cheaper than expected (I think the $16.99 price came from bestbuy.com). Glad to see that at least one major retailer put this title on special. BTW after I picked up my copy yesterday, there was only 1 left on the rack. I think retailers may be underestimating the demand for this title.
