Naturally check out www.avsforum.com and www.projectorcentral.com

You also should decide what else you will use it for. I use mine (an X1) for movies, TV, and especially surfing the net. A computer on a 100" screen is fantastic.

I have also considered the Dell ones. I don't think they are as good in many areas, but some are crazy bright, which may be good depending on what type of room light you have. Also, figure out everything that will ever be hooked up, like video games, etc. I have to unplug the tv and plug the Xbox in, which is a pain in the butt, so what connections the unit has is very important.

I'm partial to Infocus as I have an InFocus as well. However, depending on ceiling height and room size I would also look at which one is quieter. My X-1 is a little louder (fan noise) then I would like. Oh it is not bad and during movies it is not a problem. But when I watch TV (not near as loud) I notice it from time to time. A quick check shows the

My X-1 at 37 db
4805 at 30 db
H31 at 32 db
Sanyo at 23 db (possibly in eco mode - but even if a couple of db higher then still pretty good.

The easy answer is these are the "usual suspects" for PJ's in this price range. You will be happy with any of them. For me, it would probably come down to noise level and cost. However, I'm sure there are some subtle differences particularly depending on your source (as kvrdave said so well).

I own a BenQ PB6200 and it's been great! I had the PB6100 previously and never had a bit of trouble out of it.

I got a Hitachi Home 1 for about $600 bucks and am loving it (At 200 hours). LCD, so no rainbows. Its 16:9 native, too. I'm throwing a 4'7" by 11' screen and it looks great from 16+ feet back. Plus replacment bulbs are less than $200 bucks.

I dont know about the Optoma, but the Z3 is a great PJ, with native High Def, which might not be important to you. The 4805 is also a GREAT PJ for the price, can get it at costco for $1100-1200 with a small screen. This is a great deal package. The Z3 is LCD, and the 4805 is DLP (do you see rainbows?).... If HD is important (or if you need Lens shift) got the Z3. If you just want HD and plan on a table mount or Invert Ceiling mount, get the 4805. The 4805 has the Fajourda (sp?) chip, which makes it much better deinterlacer. I have the AE700 Panasonic. the Z3 is more future proof with 720p HD, but the 4805 is great at DVDs
