Deal Alert : Half Life 2 $19.99 at CompUSA
Just a heads-up : Half Life 2 will be $19.99 starting tomorrow at CompUSA for a week. I hate that store, but this (along with a GT4 deal a while back) almost makes the store worth seeking out. Since it'll be featured in the Sunday Ad, you should be able to PM it at CC or BB. Just got a new computer and 6600 GT card, so my timing couldn't be better.
Thanks to CAG for the info.

Bought this and Lego SW today at BB for their price ($80 + tax), then returned with CompUSA and CC ads and got $44 + tax credited back to me. Smokin' deals, both.

I'm always wary of CompUSA anymore. They are notorious for advertising something and then only having 5 in stock for the sale. All of which go in the first 5 minutes they are open. Best to PM them somewhere else.

Here's my ordeal picking up this game:
I went to my local CompUSA and of course it was sold out. The girl just checks their online website to find out if they have it in their store. It says they don't, but a few others that are anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half away have limited quantities. So I ask for an ad since my Sunday paper was conspicuously missing it, and I head off to Best Buy about 10 minutes away.
I get to Best Buy and of course they have a ton on the shelf. They have it on sale for the awesome price of $39.99. I grab one and take it up to the counter with my CompUSA ad and ask for a price match. The girl at the register looks at the ad and calls over one of the other girls and asks if they can do the price match. The other girl starts to give me the "we can't price match it because it's below our cost, and we really only mark up software by a few dollars anyway" speech, and I ask her if that's their company policy. She says yes so I ask to see it in writing, and she points to the big policy sign on the wall. I read it and it says nothing like what she's saying, but it says to ask for a brochure for all of the exceptions. Fine so I ask for a brochure, and she says "let me talk to my manager." I wait a while and she comes back and says they can price match if it's in stock. So the girl behind the register says she has to call CompUSA to see if it's in stock.
I ask if she can just access the CompUSA website because that's what their employees do to check stock, but she says that they don't have access to the web. So then I ask her to call a specific store because I know the closest one is out of stock. She says she only has the closest CompUSA's number so I tell her maybe it's in the ad, and of course the one time I need a store number from the ad it's not there. So she says "let me go talk to my manager." She comes back a while later and says he told her to call information. She proceeds to call information then calls CompUSA.
Of course as anyone knows it's easier to win the lottery than to get a human on the phone when calling CompUSA. I begin to think this is going to be in my favor, and that she'll give up and just give me the price match. After about 5 more minutes of waiting she comes back and tells me she can't get anyone on the phone so she just goes ahead and gives me the price match.
In the end what should have taken just five minutes of time took about 10 minutes at CompUSA, 10 minutes to drive to Best Buy, and 40 minutes getting a price match at Best Buy. For the hour that I spent getting this game for $20 I should have just spent the $40 at Best Buy and saved my myself 55 minutes. Oh well, I know I shouldn't expect much from these stores, but come on. This should have been simple.

Yikes, what a pain. Yet another reason it makes sense sometimes to buy at BB first, then PM later : Not only do you eek out another 10%, but the "not in stock" excuse can't work, since it might have been in-stock when you bought it. What can they say then?

I can't stand it when stores make up the price match policy as they go. I love the "we can't price match if it's below our cost line." If it was written somewhere in there okay, but when it doesn't say that anywhere in the policy it is just down right frustrating. I feel your pain Karnblack, I once was denied a pricematch from $30 to $25 at TRU. I showed the manager the ad from Circuit City that listed a Wavebird for $25. Her response, "We don't match everyday low prices, just sale prices." Uhhh okay.....I only went there because I had a gift card to burn.

That's weird that the BB you went to called Compusa, at the BB I work at if someone has an ad or some kind of proof of a lower price at a different store then we just give it to them. When people ask if we can call other stores because they don't have an add to prove that they have it lower, we are not allowed to do that.

I'm currently playing KOTOR 2, TRON 2.0, Battlefield 2 and Sid Meier's Pirates. I think I'm going to wait until I finish TRON 2.0 or KOTOR 2 before installing Half-Life 2. Hopefully Steam will still be operational by then.

I went over to Circuit City. After getting absolutely no problem getting them to pricematch CompUSA's GTA: San Andreas $29 back in June (My Dad and I went to CompUSA and he got the X-Box version for my nephew but they didn't have the PC in stock, despite it being the Sunday of the Ad), I thought I'd give Half Life a go.
After not finding the game on the rack, I was ready to give up but then I found several copies on an endcap. I grabbed one and headed down to the cashier where I ran into another guy buying the game too. He had just come from customer service where he'd gotten them to verify and match Fry's $34 sale price. He had a triumphant smile on his face. I of course whipped out my CompUSA ad and told him I was going to get them to match $19. He let me go ahead of him in line.
The cashier didn't want to do it at first, but a manager walked by and she flagged him down. He told her to honor it. So after waiting for a decent sale price for 9 months, both me and the other guy walked out with copies of a $49.99 game that we paid $16.99 plus tax for ($30 off plus 10%). What a fine day.
