Into the West (mini series) - 10.04.05

At the end of the show last night they advertized that the DVD will be out in October for Into the West. This is a definite buy for me, I really loved this series.

I'll get it too. Confusing at times but overall compelling and powerful.

I never watched the series knowing that it would come out on dvd. I am now thinking twice since there appears to be some question about how good of show it is. I may have to wait for a few more opinions before dropping my cash on it. I should have watched a few episodes to see if I would like it but never seemed to catch it on and always forgot to dvr it.

I disagree. I think the best episodes were 2, 4 and 6 (like Star Trek, the best are the even numbered ). I was especially deeply affected by the Sand Creek Massacre in episode 4.

It was 6 2-hour epidoes, so in essence it was 12 episodes.

I would expect to see a 4 disc set (discs 1-3 being the episodes, and disc 4 for special features).

The episodes run an hour and a half in real time without commercials so in total it is 9 hours for the entire series.

Yeah, it did decline after the first two weeks ( the first two weeks were awesome I thought ) but after the middle weeks 3-4, I thought it picked back up, espically the episodes with Custer at little big horn I really liked.

The date is October 4. 4 discs. It's priced at $39.99 here:

4 discs. I'll wait to see if there's a better price.

Not a bad price for the length. I think it is something that should at least be tried. It may not always be a pleasant thing to watch (so owning it may not be for everyone), but it is at the very least a conversation starter.

Good to know. I thought the series was very uneven myself, but I'll probably be giving a set away as a gift.
