Fry's Ads 7/22-26: Steamboy,XXX2=$14, Ice Princess=$17, Dead Like Me S2=$28

Here's the entertainment software listings from the Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), Houston (HOU), Chicago (IL), Los Angeles/Orange County (LA), San Jose/Silicon Valley (SJ), and Washington state (WA) Fry's Ad(s). These prices are valid only for the dates listed in the subject line.

The items listed below are as they appear in the Fry's Ads. If an item is listed as "SJ only", for example, it could still be on sale at other locations (i.e. - Austin, Sacramento, San Diego, AZ, GA, IN, NV, OR), but it only appeared in the SJ ad. However, since these ads are not available online, I cannot confirm them.

If anyone knows of a website to view any further ads, please let me know.

Unless otherwise indicated, items below are listed in all six (DFW, HOU, IL, LA, SJ, and WA) ads.

Nice! Everyone else has pulled it off the shelves, but Fry's has GTA: San Andreas on sale!

Good for them!

I was wondering about this as well. My understanding was that ALL copies had to be recalled and at the very least relabeled with the new Adults-Only rating, and that no store could sell the 'M' rated versions. I wonder if you'll really be able to buy it there, and if Fry's will get in any kind of trouble if you can...

I don't think they "have" to be recalled, I think it was just at the discretion of the seller. Most retailers have pulled them. Fry's sells hardcore porn (in the programming section!) so I guess they have no problem with a game that can have softcore content enabled.

Apparently sealed copies are topping $100 on Ebay.

I thought that it was only the PC version that had this issue. No?

Technically speaking, the XBox code would be extremely similar to the PC version, so it may contain the issue.

However, only the PC version can be modded currently. Which brings an interesting point, shouldn't only the PC version be "AO" and the other versions remain an "M"?

Actually, the Xbox and PS2 version can unlock it with Action Replay codes.

Xbox doesn't have an action replay (well, it does, but instead of changing code in the game it just allows you to download save files) so there is not currently a way to unlock it on Xbox. Still, the issue is that the content is still on the disc and may be unlocked sometime in the future.

Take the ad and PM somewhere like Best Buy or Circuit City. I had been the same way until I realized and started remembering about PMing - I had thought I was out of luck if out-of-stock. Now I am always thinking about PMing - closest store, reward points, whatever.

They sell all their TREK sets for 99.99. Never seen much in the way of first-week discounts either...

Recently they have not been discounting except online (outpost.com) where they have gone as low as 69.99 for Enterprise S1 and others from time to time. But shipping and tax can add 5 to 10 dollars more, so it at 69.99 it becomes 79.99 (better and maybe ok for those who are not anal about paying for shipping and taxes, regardless).

In the past, for the Original Series, they actually did big discounts in-store, for 1 or 2 day sales (like Mon-Tues or Wed-Thurs). This occurred the week of or within a couple weeks after release. Then they did it again later on, nothing since though. At these times, I PM'ed at Best Buy and got their bonus disks and Reward Points.

Actually, I've seen Trek sets sell for $79.99 (and IIRC, $69.99 once). But it has been a while since I've seen one at a sale price.

Fry's and Best Buy are about the same distance out of my way (not even sure where a close Circuit City is). I also don't get the paper so I don't have an ad to take with me. If Fry's is out of stock, they are real easy with their rain checks (if the person can figure out how to work the computer) so I just request one from the software booth. I ended up stopping by there on the way home from work today and ran across 1 copy of DLM S2 so I am good.
