Alias writers sign two-year deal

From http://comingsoon.net/news/topnews.php?id=10443

Scribes Target More Seasons of Alias
Source: Variety
July 19, 2005

Alias writers Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec have signed a two-year deal with Touchstone Television which calls for the duo to remain as co-executive producers on the hit ABC series for the next two seasons.

Variety says Appelbaum and Nemec will also develop programming for Touchstone, marking the first time the pair have worked on creating projects together.

They wrote a draft of Paramount's planned 21 Jump Street remake for Neil Moritz and have a blind feature script deal with Moritz's Sony-based Original. A year ago, they teamed with Scott Rosenberg to write the remake of Let's Get Harry for Original and Sony.

Morgan Wandell, senior VP of drama at Touchstone, said Appelbaum and Nemec have been a major asset to Alias, calling the duo "unbelievably inventive and creative."

They wrote the twist-packed fourth-season finale of Alias and said they were looking forward to making projects with a similar creative energy. They have been working on the show for two seasons.

Did the fourth season do all that well? I still have 17 episodes on my Tivo that I haven't watched, as opposed to the first two seasons, where I watched them pretty much as they aired.

That's certainly good news since the 3rd and 4th seasons were vastly superior to the original 2.

I'm with das... this is nothing but good news.

(Jeez... I'm not even sure if I'll bother continuing with this. 2 more seasons like the last two seems like torture to me.)

With this great news and with the new time slot, how can they possibly fail?

You need to get through the 1st half of the season before it gets good again. Plow through them because the back end of the season rocks!

Interesting to hear about 21 Jump Street.

I thought the fifth season was going to be the last season for Alias but I guess we'll get at least two more. I thought the first three seasons were pretty good, most of the fourth was eh, but it still had some really good episodes.

So uh, does this mean:
Spoiler:
Rambaldi has been beaten and stretched to death and is now truly finished. Now it's time for Alias to move on to another big plot?

So does that mean we'll get that "Very Special" episode of Alias with Jenny continuously walking down a hallway in different pieces of lingerie for the entire 45 minutes?

Great news indeed... Such a great show the first 2 seasons, slowly downhill since.

Wait, was that sarcasm? ~ 'cause I'm pretty sure most people prefer the first two to the last two.

I loved the Rambaldi storyline most of the time.

Alias is finished after next year I bet, since it is in a death time slot.

Spoiler:
Yes, it was sarcasm. The writers who were just renewed are responsible for seasons three and four, not one and two.

I don't know, I thought the second half of season four was pretty sweet. If they can continue off that, maybe they have a shot of returning to form.

IMO, Season 3 was disappointing because it got too over the top with the twists and double crosses. But Season 4 was almost worse because it failed to capitalize on both past setups AND its preseason promises. It did finally right itself halfway through the season, and there were some good standalone eps in there, but for awhile it just seemed to wander around lost (no pun intended).

I thought season 3 was the worst, and the first half of season with the stand alone eps. felt disconnected. But they got it together in the second half, and if they can keep that up then I'll be tuning in.

This doesn't mean there will be a 6th season. ABC can cancel whenever they feel like it. But hey at least Jeff Bell is getting beefed up to executive producer this season.

speaking of which, are they still going to start the season in september, with garner pregnant and all, or wait until jan (or just have a double do the stunt work)

BTW, why is Alias not being rerun this Summer?

Is ABC not interested in trying to build its audience before it comes back next season?

Not many shows "build an audience" when entering their 5th season... if people haven't gotten curious to check out the show at this point, it's doubtful they will.

A right of which I hope they fully exercise after this season. Alias has come crashing down in the last two seasons after the first two seasons of brilliance. I really hope they don't continue beating this horse after the fifth.

Being a bit pessimistic, eh? There is always the chance, albeit unlikely that Alias will recover in the fifth season.

I've never watched "Alias," and I'm sort of interested in giving it a try.

Stop buying the DVDs at the after second season, correct?
