Dell Home has the Canon PowerShot Pro1 8.3MP Digital Camera for $699 - 20% off coupon L172GC?6KCD?2H - $60 off $500 coupon M1LC?KT3MMTGT$ = $499 w/ free shipping.
That's a nice little camera. I'm tempted to get it for vacations.
Of course I just bought a DELL computer for us, the kid's computer just died, the microwave is on the way out, the widescreen Mitsu is acting wacky and the Canon video camera is doing some strange stuff too. Plus my daughter's Kodak digital cam has been dropped one too many times and it also getting hesitant to start up sometimes.
I've got technology issues.

I talked with the co-worker that owns the camera and she likes it. She paid $700 and the only thing she wasn't thrilled about was the shutter delay.

I liked the other price better. Guess I'll wait until Phammy finds us another bargain.

You should see if they could price-adjust and match Dell's price or just return this one and buy the one from Dell.

My co-worker has this camera. Pretty neat camera. For some, it's still consider a huge and heavy camera. The super macro feature is awesome. If anyone is complaining about shutter lag, then they will never be happy until they get a DSLR.

Get the Canon SD300, SD400 or SD500. Or you can get the Casio Exilim EX-P505 (http://www.steves-digicams.com/2005_reviews/exp505.html). This is a little sucker with some reach @ 38-190mm.

So you're saying they don't have shutter lag?

No, I didn't say that. All consumer level cameras has a shitty shutter lag.

the camera takes amazing pictures. there is some ridiculously slow autofocus, however. and the zoom is pretty cumbersome. no af assist lamp either. if you've got an external flash, and like taking scenic or pictures of non-moving things, this camera is great.

slow auto, cumbersome zoom, no af assist? maybe my patience should continue. Thanks.
I have plenty of external strobes, but that would defeat the purpose since they're about the same size as the camera.

The slow autofocus has been addressed with a firmware update. Search for "firmware" in the Canon Talk forum on dpreview.com here (http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/forum.asp?forum=1010). People say it's like a whole new camera after the firmware update. I updated mine as soon as I got it, so I didn't have any prior experience with the problems.
