Eminem to make final bow as solo artist-report

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...sure_eminem_dc

1 hour, 53 minutes ago

DETROIT (Reuters) - Rap superstar Eminem plans to make his last solo performance in Ireland in September, the Detroit Free Press, his hometown newspaper, said on Friday.

Citing sources close to the 33-year-old rapper, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, the daily also said his current album "Encore" would probably be his last as he moves to full-time work as a record producer.

The final solo appearance of Mathers, the best-selling hip-hop artist ever, would be at a concert in Dublin, Ireland, on Sept. 17, the Free Press said.

The newspaper quoted his manager, Paul Rosenberg, as saying no official decision had been made about the future of the Grammy and Oscar-winning artist who has recorded three top-10 albums.

But Rosenberg said Mathers' current multi-platinum album was "certainly the cap on this part of his career."

Mathers' spokesman at Interscope Records in Los Angeles could not immediately be reached for comment.

The Free Press said the rapper, who has sold more than $1 billion worth of records, has grown weary of the media spotlight and may be musically spent.

"Marshall feels he's said everything he can say as Eminem," one insider was quoted as saying. "The idea that he intended this ("Encore") to be his last record is something that everyone on the inside circle has known for a while."

Another source said "Encore," which was released last year, had been an especially difficult record for the artist to make. "Marshall really struggles to write for himself now, to speak through the voice of Eminem," the source said.

"He knows as well as anybody that there comes a point where you risk beating this thing to death."

The cover shot on "Encore" shows Mathers taking a bow, and its closing song is entitled "Curtains Down."

In the album's liner notes, and in his current concert tour, Mathers has also played up the figurative death of Eminem.

"This is how you go out with a bang, baby," Mathers says in one video," after pulling the trigger of a pistol that misfires on himself.

I would say he had a pretty solid rapping career. However, I'm sure we'll hear him plenty on every G-Unit album that will be released in the future. Moving on as a producer seems like a logical step, so far he's done pretty well for himself there.

Good move. No need to embarass himself with more records. He will never again live up to the Marshall Mathers LP.

'Encore' was a weak album to exit by. Would've been happier with the decision if it was 'The Eminem Show.'

My thoughts exactly. I bought 'Encore' the day it came out and have barely listened to it since. He should do one more album to go out with a bang because 'Encore' was definately his worst showing.

That's probably the point. He apparently realizes that he's got nothing left and future albums would be progressively weaker.

I've never listened to a single thing he's ever done (except for his first single when it was on the radio), but I give kudos to him for going out on top.

That's a laughable (and highly inaccurate) statement.

IMHO, of course.

I don't think that is inaccurate...in my opinion he is the best rapper ever along with tupac.

Somehow Benzino will take credit for this, saying Eminem is retiring to "run away from him like a bitch" or some stupid shit.

Actually, it's...

1. Hammer (none of that shit he did when he was "M.C. Hammer")
2. 3d Base
3. Snow (someone informed me that this cat's in prison now?)

Honorable Mention:

4. "J.J." from J.J. Fad

Yea. That would be funny. I have no idea who Benzino is. And I'm sure there's a good reason why. Talent rarely goes unnoticed.

Never been an outwardly expressive Eminem fan. Kind of a closet-fan. I kind of look up to him as an artist. There's only a handful of sincerity in hip-hop these days. He's one of the few, creative good-guy emcee's in the mainstream. Right up there with J5 (and company) and Kanye West. Yet far from muh favorite.

I'm okay with Encore being his last. I'll kind of miss hearing new stuff. But nothing to get worked up over. I'm glad he pulled a Seinfeld instead of a Simpsons.

His last album was pretty crappy and his producing skills are kinda weak. Maybe if he made one last album without half the songs being about his mom or Kim, he would have another great cd. The Marshall Mathers LP, The Slim Shady LP, and The Eminem Show are all incredible albums. Too bad he'll probably never make another great one.

I don't buy any rapper when he announces his retirement. Or any celebrity, for that matter. Paging Jay-Z, Cher, the Who...

Dr. Dre is still on top but he's only made 3 albums. He's still one of the best in the biz.
