I've been hearing mixed reviews about War of the Worlds. I haven't seen it yet but I plan on waiting for the DVD.

Dude, if you're into Sci-Fi you have to see it. Heck, even if you aren't, go see it. This movie is spectacular, especially on the big screen.

I'm waiting for the DVD too. The reviews by people I tend to agree with haven't been very good.

Ok, I still have little desire to see this right away but if the option comes to me I'll go see this instead of seeing anything else.

I've read enough reviews to believe this movie isn't worth me spending $10 to see to find out it's disappointing. Reading a variety of different reviews gives me a pretty good idea of what to expect. I'll wait 'til I can Netflix it instead.

I'm in full agreement. I watched War of the Worlds on Wed. and it definitely is not another ID4.

This is one of those movies that you HAVE to see in the theater.
Years from now people that missed it in the theater will hope it gets re-released to be able to experience it on the bigscreen (Like I did with the original star wars movies and finally got to see them in the theater for the first time in '97)

The giant screen and maybe THE best sound I've ever heard in a theater MAKE this movie. It becomes more of an experience than just a movie. The last time I remember being wowed by the combination of incredible sound and effects like this in a theater was in '93 with Jurassic Park and its welcoming debut of DTS sound.

Very Highly recommended

My one word review....

INTENSE

Definately needs to be seen on the big screen; the sound, the visuals, etc. It does not have the "let's save the world" feeling that is so cheesy (ID4) nor does it have the "we will prevail speeches" that are so lame (again ID4 or Day After) nor the child like dialogue and characters (Star Wars).

That would be great except the so-called "big screens" are getting smaller and smaller and smaller with the increasing number of multiplex theaters. Having seen The Lord of the Rings Extended Edition DVD's on a Samsung 50" DLP rear projection TV connected to a Pioneer DV-434 DVD player it doesn't lose any of its impact--and in fact it's often better than the original big screen experience because you don't suffer the issues of out-of-focus and/or too dark projections that seem to plague a lot of theaters nowadays.

Ouch for Land of teh Dead. What's that, a 75 or 80% drop since last friday? Guess June wasn't the right time for that flick.

And yet Bewitched dropped 60% from last friday.

War of the Worlds is definitely impeding on Batman's space (as it has since Wednesday). BB is down 45% from last Friday, so it's still holding up relatively well.

Oh and yeah, Land of the Dead was off 80.1%

Rebound looks like another misfire for Martin Lawrence.
