Will we ever see a Tex Avery box set in R1?
The box set released in region 2 looks incredible, and I would almost sell my soul to own the collection. These are some of the funniest cartoons ever made in my opinion. Anybody think we will see this in the U.S.?

As long as the Looney Tunes are being released at a snail's pace-don't look for this anytime soon.I want to get the R2 release.

Those wanting to pick up the R2 release may be better served by just biding your time for a R1 release which is rumoured to be happening (no idea of timescale) and may very well be uncensored and remastered unlike the R2 set which are essentially transfers of the old laserdisc sets.

I had the laserdisc set, it was really nice for the time... but yes, there was some censoring. I'd be surprised to see them uncensored here, as what they censored was mostly racial jokes.

The Beany and Cecil Image DVD covers alot of the career of Bob Clampett.

In going back to the original topic of this thread, here's what cartoon historian Jerry Beck had to say about the French R2 Tex Avery set (and the possibility of a R1 set) back in January 2004:
"I understand your pessimism.
I can only tell you that it is the intention of Warner Home Video (and me, as a consultant) to release (in the U.S.) uncut, uncensored, unedited, restored versions of cartoons in sets aimed at collectors. Our first effort, the LOONEY TUNES GOLDEN COLLECTION is an example of what we intend.
There are some releases, like the TOM & JERRY dvds, that are aimed at families, moms & kids. I cannot speak for those. Collections aimed at collectors will be uncut.
The situation with the French set is this: The French division of Warner Home Video really wanted to put out the TEX AVERY cartoons NOW. The U.S. home office is currently restoring the prints for eventual U.S. DVD release. The French office couldn't wait. They went ahead and used the old TV masters.
They wanted Avery in the worst way - and got it!
I cannot say for sure how future Warner Home Video cartoon collections will fare, but I can tell you it is our intention - and I'm on the team - to release uncut, restored, complete versions of the cartoons on dvd."

Personally, I have an "eBay Import" Tex Avery collection that will tide me over nicely until WHV puts out an uncut, restored edition.

Shouldn't a Tex Avery boxset have priorities over Wacky Races or Perils of Penelope Pitstop.I know they also represent Hanna Barbera but putting lesser animation before the classics makes little sense.

I'm still trying to figure out why Warner Brothers didn't put out the Fantastic Four(animated) from 1967 this coming week.If ever there was a time now would be it.

If you import this from France there are 2 versions, 1 a 4 disc set and one a limited 5 disc set in a tin with a Symphony in Slang ske
tch book and two docs. If you are importing this also look in France for a port of the Betty Boop Laserdisc Collection on DVD and from MK2 a Complete Flip the Frog Collection, featuring cartoons not found on Cartoons That Time Forgot. MK2 also has a Comicolor Collection.

The R2 version was well-intentioned, but a travesty. Not only were cartoons censored, but the transfers beckoned back to the late '80s.
I can't reveal sources, but I do know that WB plans a complete Tex Avery set for R1 on DVD, likely to arrive in 2001, and surely to put the depressing French issue to shame....and yes, all cartoons will be uncensored. So sayeth people in the know whom I trust.

Looney Tunes Platinum Collection: Volume Two [Blu-ray] (2012)
11 Tex Avery directed MGM shorts will be on this release, but only on Blu Ray and they're not remastard unfortunately:
*Blitz Wolf (1942) - a good short, but we got it already from the "Academy Awards" set
*Red Hot Riding Hood (1943)
*Screwball Squirrel (1944)
*Swing Shift Cinderella (1945)
*King-Size Canary (1947)
*Bad Luck Blackie (1949)
*Seņor Droopy (1949) - I only lament that it isn't "Droopy's Good Deed"
*Wags to Riches (1949)
*Symphony in Slang (1951) - simply a brilliant short
*Magical Maestro (1952) - a classic!!
*Rock-a-Bye Bear (1952) - a favorite of mine
