ARLINGTON, Texas -- Texas Rangers pitcher Kenny Rogers could face assault charges after shoving two cameramen Wednesday, sending one to the hospital in a videotaped tirade that included throwing a camera to the ground and threatening to break others.

Rogers (9-3), who missed his last start for the struggling Rangers with a broken pinky he suffered during an outburst earlier this month, erupted at the cameramen as they filmed him walking to the field for pregame stretching before Wednesday night's game against the Los Angeles Angels.

The 40-year-old left-hander first shoved Fox Sports Net Southwest photographer David Mammeli, telling him: "I told you to get those cameras out of my face."

Rogers then approached a second cameraman. He wrestled the camera from Larry Rodriguez of Dallas-Fort Worth television station KDFW, threw it to the ground and kicked it.

Rodriguez filed a formal police report against Rogers on Wednesday night, claiming assault. Police went to interview Rodriguez at about 9 p.m. ET at the Medical Center of Arlington where the cameraman was being examined for possible injuries.

According to Lt. Blake Miller, detectives plan to interview Rogers sometime on Thursday.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound pitcher saw two other cameramen who were recording from the Rangers' dugout and walked toward them. He did not make contact with the men, who were backing away.

"I'll break every ... one of them," Rogers said before he was escorted to the clubhouse by catcher Rod Barajas.

The Rangers sent Rogers home about an hour later.

KDFW news director Maria Barrs said paramedics took Rodriguez to the hospital to be checked out.

"He does have quite a bit of pain, in his shoulder and his arm and his leg," Barrs said. Rodriguez was treated and released.

Fox Sports Net Souhwest spokesman Ramon Alvarez said Mammeli wasn't injured.

Footage shot by Dallas-Fort Worth station KTVT shows Rogers pushing Rodriguez's camera, which goes over the photographer's head and falls to the ground. As Rodriguez puts the camera back on his shoulder, Rogers approaches again, pushing the lens away and having words with the photographer.

As players begin to intervene, Rogers pulls the camera to the ground and kicks it before walking away.

Rodriguez said that when he picked up the camera the second time, his intentions were to keep getting footage of Rogers.

"I figured since now he vented that he was all good, but the second time was just a little bit too much," he said in an interview on KDFW.

"There's no question he was upset. I don't understand why we were the ... I don't know if we were the stem of the problem or what," he said. "I don't think we did anything wrong."

Rangers general manager John Hart said late Wednesday that the team had contacted Major League Baseball, and wouldn't say whether the team would suspend Rogers.

Hart said he had talked to Rogers and "Kenny obviously realizes his actions were incorrect."

"His comment to me was 'I didn't handle this right. I'm frustrated. My integrity and toughness is being called into question,' " Hart said.

Rangers manager Buck Showalter, who did not witness the events, said the said the team will investigate.

"It's not something we'll take lightly," Showalter said. "When I have all the facts, I'll deal with it."

Showalter added: "One person was frustrated -- frustrated at not being able to win."

Texas lost eight of nine entering Wednesday night's game, which the Rangers won 7-6.

"I think it demonstrated an appalling lack of control," Barrs said. "The team doing poorly is no excuse for assaulting a guy who's just doing his job."

"What Kenny did was wrong and we won't condone it," Rangers owner Tom Hicks said. "It will be handled internally."

Rogers missed his turn Tuesday night against the Angels because of a small broken bone in his right pinkie. Rogers was hurt after he came out of a game against Washington on June 17. Video clips showed him knocking multiple coolers to the ground, then looking at his right hand.

Rogers has refused to talk to reporters all season, and on Tuesday night ordered television cameras turned off around him. He has boycotted most media since a report before spring training that he threatened to retire if he wasn't given a contract extension.

Hicks said he's aware that Rogers has a temper.

"Kenny has had a short fuse dealing with the media," said Hicks. "I've heard stories about what may or may not have happened. He has issues. It's directed at the media and I don't know why."

Rangers players were supportive of Rogers.

"It's something we're going to keep in-house," said Gary Matthews Jr., who hit a two-run homer for the Rangers. "It's going to be between Kenny and the front office."

What an asshat.

First break your hand punching a water cooler, and then assault camera men.

I'd love to see Selig suspend him for the rest of the year. MLB doesn't need shit like this, especially after the Pacers-Pistons incident.

I don't think that he was fined nor suspended for his action. Just a public apology.

A guy throws a chair into the stands and isn't suspended for a year, and a shove to a cameraman warrants it?

I have no sympathy for cameramen - what do expect when someone's having a bad day keep filming and expect for more fireworks to explode

Rodriguez said that when he picked up the camera the second time, his intentions were to keep getting footage of Rogers.

I know what you mean. Even though I don't really empathize with celebrities, I really feel bad for them for all the papparazzi crap they have to put up with. Things have gone too far and eventually the levy will break (although the Princess Di thing didn't seem to matter much)

Rogers seems to be on a hot-streak though.

You are taking the side of Rogers? This guy has a job to do and has been doing it for a while. Actually Rogers went after 2 camera guys and apperantly was trying for a third from a report. One thing is to put your hand on the lens to cover it up and complain. It's another to say your whiney rant about how life is unfair and leave me and my millions alone but to go back and start shit again.(?). IMO he is a prick and this year he has proven that a few times already.

For being suspened a year though? No way.

No crack pipe. I just think these whiney multi-millionaires should be severly punished when they assault fans or media on the field. Especially after the pacers-pistons debacle. This shit has to stop, and hurting these losers severly in their wallets is the only way that will work.

While I sympathize with a celebrity who goes off on some asshole papparazzi photograher, that's not at all what happened in this instance. This was a TV cameraman, doing his job in the exact place where he is supposed to do his job. No excuse for going after them.

Still, the camera man said he was where he was every day, filming the team coming out and waiting for the manager to come out for his daily interview.

Plus, Rodgers should expect extra attention after his moronic water cooler incident. If I was an owner I'd have a clause in every player contract that they don't get paid for missing games with self inflicted injuries like that.

Well, tough shit. Major League Baseball wants TV cameramen on the field so they get publicity, which brings money. He was allowed to be there, and he was allowed to film Rogers. However, Rogers was certainly not allowed to attack the guy without provocation (no, properly filming him is not "provocation," at least not under the law). People keep talking about what MLB should do, but the truth is the guy broke the law and should be arrested.

I agree with that, just not for a year. ;)

I do have some sympathy for him. It's easy to talk about the whiney millionaires and what not, but they still have shitty days, days that are every bit as shitty as the ones we have, and then they have a camera in their face when they're already in a foul mood. Not condoning his actions, but this isn't like Ron Artest jumping into the stands at all.

I have bad days as well, but that doesn't mean I can knock the shit out of a client, my wife, my boss, etc. Learning to deal with bad days in appropriate ways is part of being an adult and at Kenny Rogers age I would have thought he learned that as well.

Amen. This wasn't a member of the paparazzi or anything... he was on the field shooting players as they came out of the dugout. That's a standard camerashot that goes on in every ballpark on every single day.

saddens me. I am a Rangers fan, through and through. No call for attacking someone in the park...if the guy was in the bushes at his home that would be one thing....but this was on the field, in his rangers gear... Kenny never did well with the media when he was in NY....i think that the media circus you get in a yankees uniform killed him. He needs to get with the program or hang it up.

I forgive him though...the night after he pitched his perfect game (July 28, 1994) I was in the stands. He came out to tip his hat, and the crowd erupted like I had never heard before. We were all so proud of the guy...I hope this doesn't taint him.

It will be very interesting to see how long MLB suspends Kenny Rogers and how much he will be fined. I wouldn't be surprised the fine is US$100,000 and he is suspended until the end of July 2005.

The second guy was nowhere near Kenny Rogers. Kenny went straight for him after knocking the camera out of the first guys hands. Even when he was done kicking the camera, he went back into the dugout and threatened the other cameramen. Criminals dont even act like this. I look forward to his first day back just to see him booed!

What a jackass!

They gave out a cool glossy photograph to everybody to commemorate the perfect game. I've always like Kenny, but the guy appears to need some therapy. I wonder if things are going poorly at home for him.

Absolutely. Hurt him where it counts. He's pitched well enough to deserve to go and she shouldn't be able to.The problem is it's already under appeal by the Players Association. Suspensions under appeal are not served, so I'm not sure they could even make that statement unless they rushed his appeal through this weekend.

I agree with you though, he shouldn't go. Of course my reason is that I just don't want to see a Rangers pitcher booed in the All-Star game.

20 games for a starting pitcher is 4 maybe 5 starts. His appeal will knock it down to about 12-13 I'd imagine.

The fine is crap, too. Until these players are hit hard with fines and suspensios, shit like this is gonna keep happening.

Kenny needs to chill the hell out, and 20 games gives him plenty of time to do so.

The fine is crap, too. Until these players are hit hard with fines and suspensios, shit like this is gonna keep happening.Well it's gonna hurt his bottom line for next season. He was hoping to negotiate a contract extension in the middle of this season. Apparently the Rangers and Kenny, who has Boras as an agent, were apart in their estimations of his value. John Hart, the Rangers GM, announced that after this incident and the fact that Rogers obviously has some anger issues they are now tabling all discussions and will look at possibly resigning him in the off season. Personally, I think his value has dropped considerably. The Rangers don't want this kind of publicity, especially after the Frankie Francisco debacle last year.
