Big Lots (B&M) $3.99 Anime

too excited to do adequate search through previous posts, but
just got back from Big Lots where they had a couple dozen anime titles from Pioneer:
(assorted volumes)
Heat Guy J
Lain
Captain Harlock
Gad Guard
The SoulTaker
this was the selection I saw, but they were all $3.99!

also pick up Looker on VHS for $1.99 (when is this coming out on dvd???)

Looker (http://imdb.com/title/tt0082677/), yep, the one where Finney borrows William Shatner's toupee...

Thanks for the heads up.

Do they have the majority of the volumes for each series?

I just went to 4 BigLots.

In total, like 20 series are represented, but only AT MOST 2 dvd's from any single series were in stock among 4 BigLots.

Not worth the time unless you are particularly looking for a single DVD to fill holes in your collection. No majority of series, by a long shot.

In other words, not worth starting a new series just to get a good deal on 1 or 2 volumes.

Would you happen to remember some of the series that are represented? For $3.99, I'll gladly pick up an individual volume. Thanks.

Depends on your Big Lots.

I got 4 dvds for Project Arms and 3 for Corrector Yui.

Sugar: A Little Snow Fairy
Heat Guy J
Vandread, Vandread 2
El Hazard, El Hazard: Wanderers
L/R
Trouble Chocolate
Someday's Dreamers
Nazca

Like 1 volume from each of those, 2 from Vandread (out of 4 stores), and it's always the same 1 or 2 volumes. Lame.

Basically the same stuff that's already been in various sales already.

Thanks for the list. I already have all of Heat Guy J, but I'll definitely look for Someday's Dreamers.

Just wondering, did they have Vandread second stage (season 2) vol 4? I'm willing to pay $10+ for it.

I saw something called "Haibane-Renmei," two different "Magical Project S" double disc sets, "Ai Yori Aoshi," and [for you Miyazaki completists] Sherlock Hound.

Haibane Renmei is an awesome series. If you have any interest in the anime genre at all, you should pick this series up ASAP. It's only a 4 disc series and animeliquidations.com has each volume for $8.99 each. So if you can pick up 2 volumes from Big Lots, then you can complete the series for just $17.98.

I'll second the Haibane recommendation, just don't be expecting girls with guns in bikinis.

Haibane was worth the money at the regular price, at discount prices like this it's a steal. Grab that puppy.

Okay. I made a bigger sweep of the area's BigLots (filthy east LA has a ton, because BigLots are put in filthy places).

Upon visiting 13 BigLots, exactly 5 had anime. 2 of the 5 had less than 3 titles.

I went ahead and bought any anime I didn't currently have, trying to complete sets.

Here are the titles I bought:

Chobits 2, 6, 7
Someday's Dreamers 1, 2
L/R 1, 4
El Hazard 2
PatLabor WXIII movie (normal edition)
Vandread 4
Vandread 2nd Runner 1, 4
Mahoromatic 3
Mahoromatic More 1, 3
Nazca 2
Master Keaton 1, 2, 4
Mini-Goddess 3, 4
Sol Bianca 3
Mao Chan 1, 2
Wanderers 3, 4
Gad Guard 1, 2
Heat Guy J 1, 4
Magical Project S 1
Ai Yori Aoshi 4, 5
Armitage Dual Matrix (Limited Edition)
Armitage Poly-Matrix (Signature Series)
Sakura Wars the movie (Limited Edition with pencil boards) -- *heavy*
Niea_7 3
Hyper Dolls

I am returning about half of these.

I also saw various:

Lain
Sherlock Hound
Haibane Renmei
Trigun
Sugar: A Little Snow Fairy
Beyblade

at a BigLots in Riverside, CA, but I didn't buy them since I either have them or wasn't interested.

That's a lot of recommendations for Haibane Renmei! I guess I won't be returning it then. This will be the first anime series I ever see, so it should be interesting.

Just make sure you start from the beginning! That's one of the few I haven't seen but want to. I just haven't had luck finding it anywhere cheap, and my Big Lots didn't have any Haibane Renmei (though they did have a buttload of stuff).

I don't remember where I found Vandread 2nd Stage 4 (maybe the one in 91786). I'm taking mine back though, so if you want it maybe I can send it to you or tell you where I took it back (when I do).

I think the Sugar Fairy one might be, the previews on it looked way too saachrin for me to even try watching it. Niea_7 might be too, but it might just bore her - it is kind of a "slice of life" show except it is a slice of the life of a pre-teen girl with some aliens mixed in as a normal part of life - promising and odd, but almost completely plotless. If she has tomboy leanings, Heat Guy might be good.

If you could sell it to me, that would be great. I assume you take paypal? Of course I'll give you extra for your trouble. I've PM you at animeondvd.com, please check it. Thanks.

I went to the Big Lots in Niles, IL and didn't find any.
Has anyone found some around Chicago?
